I've often seen DPX format recommended for use in Resolve. Can anyone explain to me the advantages of this file format?

Three key advantages;
It's uncompressed and you can use the container for SD or HD or 2K or 4K or whatever resolution you need.
It's a universal cross OS format so files can be shared between facilities as well as between systems in the one facility.
Every frame is a file so the native frame rate is what your capture rate. The header contains metadata including timecode. The file name is usually the timecode so with reel name folders duplicates can easily be avoided.

Of course this all comes with the two key issues, bandwidth to move the images and size of the storage needed to hold them.
