Has anyone ever successfully disconnected their eGPU?

PostTue Dec 07, 2021 11:51 pm

Hello forum. Owner of a BlackMagic eGPU & 2020 16" MacBook Pro. I have in the past 6 months never been able to successfully use the menu bar Disconnect GPU feature. Same problem on Big Sur and Monterey. Once left it for 72 hours in the Disconnecting GPU state, but it never finished up whatever it was doing that would let it disconnect cleanly.

So, my question is this, has anyone ever been able to successfully disconnect? Or is that menubar option there just to tease us?

It works perfectly fine for me with an iMac 2017 and a eGFX Breakaway, both under Catalina and now under Monterey 12.0.1. But I don't have anything connected to the eGPU, it's only used for computing.
Do you have a Monitor connected?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
