How to deal with "Consolidated" material

PostThu Aug 23, 2012 8:28 pm

Hello, all.

What is the best way to apply "linking" abilities to material that was chopped-up via "media consolidation"? Just try to find all of the stray clips via sorting, them "group" them? I know linking only applies to "cuts" from the same Media Pool Clip. Is there a way to applying linking based on Reel & TC range?

Thanks,

Hey Gray,

By "Media consolidation" do you mean splitting a long clip manually or using the scene detector?
If so this timeline cannot be re ordered. You can use the Lightbox feature to view all your clips. You can now group your clips here. I love the Lightbox very nice.....

Hi, Warren. Nice to meet you.
(I'm a friend of Jeff Olm's).

By "Media Consolidated" I mean that when being brought to me from the editor, they used either "Media Manager" in FCP or "Consolidate" in Avid MC in order to create a collection of their clips with JUST the necessary footage (maybe with handles). This creates many separate clips from the original long take clip/clips. The net result is that, as far as Resolve is concerned, even though the clips originally came from the same clip & should be "linked", they are not because Resolve bases IT'S choice of what should be linked as cuts coming from the same file in its Media Pool.

So, I presume same answer you previously gave, right?

Cheers,

I suppose you could sort the timeline in source mode (View > Timeline Thumbnail Media Source/Record > Source (C Mode)), then select relevant shots and group.
