Sharing a cloudstore mini

PostThu May 19, 2022 7:26 pm

Hi,

Just picked up a cloudstore mini, and can’t figure out how to spit the disk in 2.
Want to use one part for my own projects, and use the other part for my students without them being able to read or write on my part.
Any suggestions?

Hi -
at this moment, you cannot do this. There is no way currently to setup "shared folders" like you can on a QNAP or a Synology. There is no way to set permissions for folders, and there is no way to add in "Users" so you can assign permissions to those folders. I am sure this is a top priority for future software releases, but at the moment - there is not even a "log in" - it just mounts. No passwords. You see "Blackmagic Cloud Store" on your computers that are connected to the common 10G switch, and you can now create folders on your Mac computer inside the "Blackmagic Cloud Store". But everyone on the network will have access to them.

So once again - no user accounts, no shared folders, no permissions, so selection of R/W R/O DenyAccess. It's wide open.

I am sure this will change in the near future.

hi,

that's what I thought, probably not possible to set permissions, but hopefully in the very near future.
Would love to know what the plans are, because, should I send it back or can I rely on the next software update that this can be implemented.
Maybe someone from Blackmagic can react on this??

Never buy anything based on assumptions about future updates. Buy it for what it is or wait for the next generation. BM once even tried to make a camera switchable between global and local sensor readout and it never happened. Engineers and developers are only human, just like us. So they can fail.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, iMac 2017, eGPU
