Audio Issue: Video Assist 12G (Intermittent Hiss)

PostThu May 26, 2022 12:08 pm

I have a recent issue with my Video Assist 12G. While recording, both channels of audio experience very brief intermittent hisses. They sound similar to an RF hiss. Sometimes it sounds like the internal camera mic is routed to the recorder for a brief second. During the hiss the larger (zoomed in) VU meter display will blank out during the hiss on the channel affected. The hiss occurs only on one channel at a time. I've noticed the problem using several different cameras. I'm currently experimenting with different HDMI cables to see if that can clear it up. Video recording seems unaffected.

Tech Specs: Camera- Sony A7S2, A7S3, Mini XLR input, 1 hardline LAV, 1 Boom, Phantom Power on both channels. Recording video via HDMI in, 4K, ProRes, 23.98, Recording to a 2TB Samsung drive, or SD Card
Current Firmware? (updated a couple of months ago) I can check version # later

Any advice would be appreciated, Of course I'm on the road shooting for the next couple of days.
