Decklink Mini Monitor 4K blackouts

PostFri Jul 22, 2022 9:12 am

I have a Decklink Mini Monitor 4K connected to an Asus PA32UCX-K monitor. When using this setup with Davinci Resolve (both 17 and 18), I sometimes get blackouts on the screen for a few seconds before it comes back. This seems to happen only when I actually hit play, almost never when it's paused and just displaying a still image. If I'm in HDR mode, when the picture comes back from blackout, it displays the message "HDR ON" like this particular monitor always does when the signal changes. I don't know if that helps pinpoint it.

Anyone had similar problems to this?

Having similar and worse issues. I have it installed on a high end Windows workstation. have installed this in three different slots . . . x16, x8 and x4. They all do the same thing. Blackouts, crazy full screen distortion with green pink stripes, glitching bars, etc., have installed 4 different versions of the software, have tried every conceivable setting in both the desktop software and Resolve. If I reboot the computer once or twice, it comes back and is usable, but when I boot up the next day, it starts all over again. WTF!!!

My monitor id PA32UCR which has no issues with decklink HD, so it's definitely the card.

For those still struggling with this, it was solved by using an HDMI splitter between the monitor and the Decklink card. No issues since.

I solved the problem throwing decklink to the trash can and buying ultrastudio…

Hellow Shadewind, great you fixed it.
You say that you fixed it "by using an HDMI splitter between the monitor and the Decklink card".
Was that a 2 x HDMI in and one out or a 1 x HDMI and 2 out?

I have had the intermitent balckout problem when playing UHD at 25fps out of a Decklink Mini Monitor 4K into a BenQ SW271C monitor. I just solved it by feeding a Blackmagic Micro Converter SDI/HDMI 12G from the SDI output of the decklink and using the converters HDMI output to feed my monitor. Problem solved.

I have the same problem. Decklink Mini Monitor 4K and Asus PA32DC. Blackouts of a few seconds when I play UHD SDR material at 25fps. Desktop video on version 12.8.1 (the latest).
Does it make any sense that the problem is solved by a splitter? I don't really want to have to buy additional hardware unnecessarily and hang it in between...

A cheap splitter has solved it here too. Worth a try before ditching the card or the monitor ;-)
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

The splitter didn't do the trick for me. It seems to be even worse now. But it's a very old model I borrowed for testing.
Could someone guide me to a specific model that worked for you?
I still find it very strange that this is necessary at all...

Uli and Shadewind, would you mind sharing which switcher you used for this.
I have the same problem and I would prefer not going through a bunch of different switcher.
Thank you!

I doubt it'll be helpful, since I bought it 2 or 3 years ago and it's one of those Chinese no-brand ones and they change the look all the times. BTW, it's a splitter, not a switcher. Relatively sturdy, in a metal case.
Anyway, here you go:

Thank you!
Sorry you are right. I "switched" the two in my head while writing the post.
Just wanted to know what cheap meant for you as it isn't always the same for everyone but glad it is working for you. Will give one of those a try and see!

The one I own is actually still available, and it's only 5 bucks here in SE-Asia.

Have you checked the HDMI version that the splitter supports?
I mean the splitter should also support 4K and 10bit, otherwise the signal will be degraded. Or am I wrong?
If the second output of the splitter is not needed, would a repeater possibly also work? Unfortunately, I still haven't got round to testing it. The last splitter didn't solve the problem for me, I think I'll try a repeater. Any thoughts on that?
