Do you have questions about Desktop Video, Converters, Routers and Monitoring?

No Desktop Video with Decklink 12G Extreme 4k on Ventura

PostMon Nov 14, 2022 4:05 am

I have googled all day long and I cannot get my new Decklink 12G Extreme 4K card to accurately display anything in Resolve 18.0.6-18.1. I have a flashed 4,1>5,1 unsupported 2009 Mac Pro (Yes, time to upgrade, but...) and managed to comfortably stay in Big Sur 11.6.4 until today. Tried rebooting in Recovery mode, attempted "csrutil disable" and the response was failure; Tried Cmd-S-R "Single user Recovery" and still no go with "csrutil disable". Since I'm using an aging unsupported Mac, I had to use OpenCore for my EFI and bless the system to allow for incremental updates, but no full sys updates, which means, no Monterey (yet) nor Ventura (without a serious hardware investment).

I can install Desktop Video 12.1, restart, bless Apple's security permissions, and get the Control Panel pane to launch and config. But when it comes to actually launching Resolve (Why else would I be here?!?) , v18.1 wants the latest updated drivers, which means installing 12.2 or 12.4, and after that, the OS no longer sees the 12G card. I must have done this 10x over and over again today in slightly different configs, all of which refuses to produce an image on any screen for that matter.

Watched this 10x and still cannot bless the security settings no matter what.

I am convinced it's an issue with an OpenCore patch for this machine, but I am also petrified of switching gears midstream in a project without 3x backup options before I burn another day dicking around with it.

Anyone else in this boat?

Please.. help!

Wondering if you have tried putting the Decklink_Driver.kext and the BlackmagicIO.kext into your Kext folder on your OC EFI partition? I couldn't get the security to work no matter what I tried. By doing this I forced the BMD drivers onto OSX Ventura with the ones in my Library\Extensions Folder not loading correctly. Make sure you enable this in your config.plist and not only add them into the Kext folder. Hope this helps... I was on 12.2.1 for a while until I figured out recently where the new BlackMagicIO.kext was installed to.

12.4.1 is working fine here via USM 3G with After Effects under Monterey.
Maybe AI can help you. Or make you obsolete.

no, i just used the normal installer and did not merge into opencore (OCLP 0.52 with OC 0.8.7).
in the meantime i am on 12.6.1 and there the 12.1 desktop driver works the same.

Asking again on my own question -- any one have luck with After Effects 23.1.0 and Decklink 12G Extreme 4k on Ventura? I clearly can't be the only one.

I see Blackmagic Desktop Video in my Mercury Transmit Device Playback list, but "No Decklink Devices detected" is grayed out in the dropdown list.
