Which software version for Broadcast Videohub (Windows 10)

PostWed Feb 22, 2023 3:09 pm

We recently upgraded the small PC that was connected to our older Broadcast Videohub to a newer one that's running Windows 10. The Broadcast Videohub router uses USB, *NOT* Ethernet. When we upgraded the PC we installed the latest Videohub software from BMD, but only some of it works.

Blackmagic Videohub Control works fine and sees our previous configuration. However, the Videohub Setup application does not, as it only seems to want to connect via IP. Since our router doesn't have ethernet, this isn't an option. We can currently control it, it seems, but we can't configure it without the Setup app.

What is the latest version I can use that will work with Windows 10 and this router?

I downloaded the installer for Version 7.0, since the manual for that one references the Broadcast Videohub, but it's the same thing - it only wants an IP-based connection. Am I missing something here?

I have gone back every major version to 5.2. At version 6, the setup app can see the router is connected, but tells me to connect via network to change the labels (?) there is no network port on this router.

Then I went back to 5.2, which is an interface I'm completely unfamiliar with. Whatever version we were using before on the old Windows 7 host PC was using the v6 or newer interface. But nothing I've tried seems to work properly. I have now tried three different USB cables, on both available USB ports on that computer.

Can someone definitively tell me which version of the application is the latest I can use with this router? I'd like to install the newest and begin troubleshooting with that.

Did you ever find a solution?
I have the exact same challenge with my studio videohub (16x32)

I wish BMD would list when support is dropped in their release notes, but they are generally more sales-speak than a proper delta/diff listing.

I’m currently running v6.4 on win10, and (using the right usb-port) the usb-attached hub is recognized and presented on the network, as well as in the config util.

Connecting through a dock didn’t work.
v9 never detected the hub, even though windows did.

I might go through the newer releases and identify the newest working at some time in the future, but for now it works…

Also, note that after windows sleep, you might have to manually stop/start the blackmagic videohub daemon in services.

Never let a production machine sleep! Shut it down when you're done or keep it running if not.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
