2021 iMac for blackmagic RAW?

PostFri Feb 24, 2023 5:18 am

Hello,
I am just buying the blackmagic 4k pocket cinema camera (or may be 6k), However I wanted to know if an iMAC from 2021 with following specifications would be good to edit, render and grade Blackmagic RAW?

Apple M1 Chip
8-Core CPU
7-Core GPU
256GB storage
8GB unified memory
60.96 cm (24-inch) 4.5K Retina display²

I am unable to upgrade the RAM to 16gb because i MAC no longer allows upgradation of RAM at a later stage.

Your help would be really appreciated

So, you got that iMac already? I would have suggested 16 GB, if not.
It's going to work pretty much OK, but you may need to work in an HD timeline and temporal effects, like NR or speed changes with optical flow, will be quite slow. For final delivery, you can output UHD. Sources in 6K or 4K Braw will both be fine.
Of course, you'll ned some good external storage.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Studio 18.6.5, MacOS 13.6.5
MacBook M1 Pro, 16 GPU cores, 32 GB RAM and iPhone 15 Pro
Speed Editor, UltraStudio Monitor 3G, iMac 2017, eGPU

Congrats. I would have expected that one to work smoothly with BRAW.
