Davinci Resolve Stabilizer

PostThu Oct 18, 2012 10:01 am

Hey!

I'm pretty new to Davinci Resolve but it's already one of my favorite programs on my system.

There is just one thing: The stabilizer. In every job I do is a shaky shot and the clients question: could you do something about it. I know, Resolve is a Color Grading tool, but it's more or less the only solution to stabilize RAW in my workflow.

Sometimes the stabilizer works like a charm: clicking forward analyze and afterwards stabilize and the result is very good. But sometimes nothing happens when clicking stabilize and I don't know why. I don't get any error message, what I should do. The curves for pan and tilt look pretty good (i.e. high amplitude at shaky frames, etc). I've tried to use some test footage, but I can't figure out a fail save workflow. Is there any chance to let Resolve provide more information, why it can't stabilize a shot? Or copy and paste the curves to sizing keyframes. Manipulating the curves by hand would also be great addition.

I'll really appreciate if you would improve the stabilizer even further.

Cheers,

I've tried to split a long clip, but it does not help. Both parts get nice curves, but pressing "stabilize" does not work. Do you have a hint for stabilizing?

I've had also a look at google, whether Mocha works with Resolve, but it doesn't look like :(

Just to give you an update:
I started this project using Resolve 9 Alpha 1 and updated to every new version. I tried to stabilize the material a couple of time using all version.
Now I tried to start all over again: I created a new user and imported the xml fresh into Resolve 9.0.2. I've learned a lot about the shot and found a small point in the middle of it where I started analyzing forward using a custom region, going back to the middle minus one frame, selecting a different region of the frame and analyze backward. Now even this shot is stable. So I think it might have something to do with starting with the alpha version. But it's just a guess...

But I still have problems using "Set Point" (can't set point with the mouse) and "Smooth" control (any other value than zero won't be stabilized).

As per the manual, the Set Point feature only works with the full Resolve panel set.

I've tested stabilize here, with our famous "show demo" boats bobbing in the harbor clip, and the stabilization is working with any Smoothness or Strong value I select.

Are you saying that once you have stabilized an image, if you adjust the Smooth setting to anything but 0, the stabilization totally goes away?

hi.

concerning the "set point" option:
i'm running Resolve 9.1.3 Linux with a DaVinci2K panel here, but i can't use "set point" neither.
nothing happens when clicking the option with the mouse or hitting the button on the panel...

does this only work with the Resolve panel? then why is it mapped to the 2K panel?

thanks.

I think that if you have the Davinci Panel with the full licensed Resolve you "should" be able to do it.

I'm asking a very silly question: did you try to use step by step the manual? and if so, where the GUI diverge from the manual? (just to understand if you simply do not have access to the buttons or there is something amiss in what you're doing)

hey walter!

i do have a licensed resolve connected to a davinci2K panel.
and i think i do everything just as the manual tells me to. but still "set point" won't work for the stabilizer.

at least it seems to work for the window tracker...

best
