Sonoma 14.1, FCPX 10.6.1 and BM DV 12.7.1

PostFri Oct 27, 2023 10:13 am

Hi,

Got installed OS Sonoma 14.1 as an update from 14.0. In 14.0 everything works great, in 14.1 FCPX doesn't see Ultrastudio Monitor 3G connected to computer. On the same computer Resolve and BM Media Express can see this card, everything works fine. Can someone help me to make Ultrastudio work with Sonoma 14.1? I've reseted FCPX preferences and reinstall BM software - nothing help.

Thank,

Maciek

Hello.

Same with me. After installing OSX Sonoma 14.1, the UltraStudio 4K Mini card is not visible in the A/V output tab in FCPX. Despite uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, I do not see the card in FCPX A/V Output after allowing permissions in the "privacy and security" tab.

I will add that I also have the BM DV 12.7.1 driver.

I would like to find out from the manufacturer what is wrong.
Regards, Chris.

I've tried so many methods, trick etc. - nothing helped. At this moment - only working solution is to reinstall all operating system to OS Sonoma 14.0. I've talked with support, they said, that OS Sonoma is not supported and they support only systems 13.x. Backup data, reinstall system and restore backup is about 1,5 hours - not bad. Maybe future update for BM drivers or FCPX make it work, now - not.

Looks like Apple started enforcing how cameras and video output devices work in macOS Sonoma 14.1. This got my UltraStudio 4K Mini working again:

https://support.apple.com/en-jo/HT213969

All you have to do is boot into Recovery Mode and use Terminal to toggle a system override setting... surprised there hasn't been more chatter about this since last week's update, but thankfully it's an easy fix.

Hi, I did setup the apple legacy setting, but the BM desktop video app still doesn't recognize the UltraStudio Monitor 3G on my Macbook Air M2, connected with a USB 4 cable (the system itself does show the connection). Any ideas?

Macbook Air M2, 2022 Sonoma 14.1.1, with BM DV 12.7.1.

Hi, I followed the steps above and restored the legacy setup but can't get my new Ultrastudio Monitor 3G to work. It is connected through a USB-C-4 cable and recognized by the OS (see screenshot), but not seen by the Desktop Video App. Any ideas? Thanks so much - Jan

Same no AV Output option in FCPX (button grey out and suppressed) and no recognition of the Blackmagic 4K UltraStudio Mini in FCPX settings: My disk was encrypted. Had to remove the encryption in Terminal first and then turn on the "Lecacy" video display extensions to get the external monitor to display again through the Blackmagic 4K UltraStudio Mini using FCPX running Somoma (the cause of the problem when I upgraded to the OS). Solution as follows in Terminal after you reboot using Recovery Mode (Command + R):

I-bash-3.2# diskutil apfs unlockVolume disk7s2 -passphrase My Password
Unlocking any cryptographic user on APFS Volume disk7s2
Unlocked and mounted APFS Volume
-bash-3.2# system-override legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication=on
legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication = on
suppress-sw-camera-indication-on-external-displays = off
-bash-3.2#

My LG C1 OLED monitor I use for SDR grading worked again after this process.

I can confirm that there's an issue with FCP 10.7 (obviously under Sonoma) and the Mini Monitor.

We had to install a fresh system and decided to give Sonoma a chance on one machine. It installed without a hitch (version 14.2.1) and Desktop Video 12.6 as well. We didn't need to fiddle with any permissions or the system, it simply installed and the hardware was recognized.

Works perfectly fine with DR and Media Express. But we can't see the hardware in FCP X. The recent additions to FCP X are present.

I changed my Intel-based iMac for a M1 MacBook Pro and therefore I bought an Ultra Studio Monitor 3G in the believe that it will work on Apple-M-based Macs and Sonoma. But despite of trying all the tricks mentioned above it is not recognised by the system. I am running now Sonoma 14.4 and installed the latest desktop video setup 12.8.1 NOTHING.

With my Intel based iMac even my pretty old UltraStudio Express was functioning perfect under Sonoma with the "system-override legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication=on" trick mentioned in the apple community-support. But with the M1 and the Ultra Studio Monitor 3G I don´t get it to work, no matter what I do. I´m running out of ideas and I´m about to send the Blackmagic-box back.

Oh, just read here: might be my cable. I can´t see any tiny white light on the little BM-box viewtopic.php?f=3&t=197024

That points to hardware. Could it be that there’s a bit less power delivered over TB from the new models?
But then, it works here.

Ok, now solved. It´s indeed been a problem with the connection cable. Now it's working. Be sure to use a genuine TB3 one.

Sure, so it's clear to others: this is a Thunderbolt device, not USB-C.
