Premiere Pro 24 Crash at launch caused by Blackmagic apps

PostTue Jan 23, 2024 9:11 pm

I have been tearing my hair out trying to work out why Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 and Adobe After Effects 2024 have been crashing at launch. It would load the splash screen then crash.

After getting to the bottom of the barrel of options I came across a comment on the Adobe forum that suggested uninstalling Blackmagic applications. This solved the problem.

I uninstalled 'Blackmagic converter Setup' and 'Desktop video setup' and the launch problem was solved (these application hadn't been updated for at least a year).

Reference for Adobe Forum where I found the solution:

Super helpful guide to step through crash at launch problems with Premiere:

This post is for people searching for this problem, I hope it saves you days of trouble (Also my bad if this is in the wrong place).

My specs for reference:
Windows 10 Enterprise - 64-bit operating system
Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5120 CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz (2 processors)
RAM 128 GB
Geforce RTX 4060Ti running studio driver 546.33

For me Premiere was working fine, then I installed the drivers for Blackmagic converter and decklink, and after that I couldn't run Premiere, it would just crash at the splash screen. I've tried uninstalling the drivers, but Premiere still won't open. Did you have to reinstall Premiere after removing the blackmagic drivers?

And, what did you do - didn't you miss having the blackmagic drivers? I kinda need them!

Cheers.
