Only 7ch (6.1) audio from SDI to HDMI micro converter?

PostTue Apr 23, 2024 4:26 am

Hi all,

I'm trying to solve a rather unique problem - to get 8ch of AES/EBU into a consumer grade HDMI A/V processor.

I'm using a BlackMagic Audio to SDI mini converter to turn my 8ch AES/EBU via its four TRS inputs (fed from XLR adapters) into SDI, and then using an SDI to HDMI micro converter (the older generation with micro USB power) to HDMI.

Everything works a treat, except I'm getting a back centre channel, instead of back centre left and back centre right.

I'm not sure if this is the Audio to SDI converter that's missing a channel (although unlikely), or something in the micro converter that's a bit interesting. Firmware is 7.6. If the newer 3G or 12G micro converters will solve this problem, then I'm happy to upgrade, but will need to be certain before I go down that path.

I also get the same results when testing with an SDI feed from a Canon C200.

Has anyone got experience with either of these products with mutlichannel audio who could comment?

Thanks!
