ultrastudio monitor 3g issue

PostThu Aug 29, 2024 7:21 am

I'm on a mac studio m1 ultra, OS 14.6.1, resolve 19.0 build 69. My system/desktop video (14.2) doesn't detect the device.

I believe all the software is up to date, and the cables/ports seem to work fine on other devices. I tested the ultrastudio on an intel based imac, with an older OS (i think 12), and it worked fine there. the ultrastudio also lights up, no signs of faulty hardware.

The confusing part is that it has worked fine previously on this system, even the same cable, same port. just not anymore. Maybe i downloaded an OS update without realising which caused the issue, i'm not sure about that. I then eventually updated to the latest OS, to see if that would help, but didn't, so here i am now.

should it be compatible with the OS and desktop video version i mentioned?

Other than the older model, the 3G should be compatible.

I had the same issue. I had to completely uninstall Resolve and support files. Keep your databases!
Do a search as the other topics on this issue have detailed solutions.

Completely remove ALL BMD system extensions and preferences. It's a Desktop Video app issue, not Resolve. You must remove EVERY LAST TRACE of BMD on your Mac, apart from the databases. You must reboot after removing all those files.

I just yesterday downloaded Desktop Video 14.2 and DaVinci Resolve 19.0 and got the UltraStudio Monitor 3G to finally work. However, after closing applications and shutting down the computer and powering up the next day, the Monitor 3g was no longer working. I tried uninstalling everything and reinstalling but to no avail. DaVinci Resolve will not recognize an external video device in Preferences and Desktop Video says No Desktop Video Device Detected. I have tried all permutations of uninstalling and reinstalling and restarting the computer but I can not get a signal to an external monitor again. I also tried DaVinci Resolve 19.0,1.

I submit this response solely for informational purposes to communicate that my attempts initially were successful but this was not a long term solution.

I think this is the correct answer.

In short, eventually, I decided to completely reinstall sonoma, and erasing/formatting the internal storage, and that worked. i was out of ideas where all these BMD files were located, and since my fulltime job is editing/grading, and a proper playback is crucial, i thought this was worth a shot..

make sure to backup any important files on your internal storage (fonts, plugins, etc) if you decide to go this way. If you have this covered, it's pretty quick and easy.

I have just experienced this issue on a Apple M1 Max MacBook running the latest version of Sonoma and Desktop video 14.2

I am not very familiar with removing extensions etc. Is there any advice how to fix this?

SOLVED
Hi guys,
After trying all the advises I found here in the chat, I figured out, at least in my case on Mac OS Sequoia 15.5, that every time I install the Desktop video Setup software, it gave me two "similar" and consecutive error messages, that I OKed or read only the first than skipped the second... and the key was there, anyway after this contextualization lets move to the Solution:
Go to apple menu > System preferences> General> Login items & Extensions> (Scroll down to the extentions)
you should find among the extensions "Camera Extensions" and "Driver Extensions" those were the referred in the two error messages I skipped every time I reinstalled the "DVS" so, click the info "I" button on both and activate them. it should work straight, in my case it automatically started a firmware update of the device.

Sorry for being that long but I wanted to be as detailed as possible as I know the OS design could change in the future update, so the path will change but the concept will hopefully be the same.
Cheers.
Chamsbach

UPDATE:
When installing it on another machine, I didn't get the error messages nor found the extensions in the preferences...
Ive solved that by relaunching the installation again a second time before restarting and that's when I got the errors, found the extensions (previous process)... and now its works on both machines.
