Cloud Store Max 100G Port functionality

PostFri Nov 22, 2024 3:11 pm

Dear Forum members,

Has anyone succseeded linking the Cloud Store Max 48TB to a 100 gig switch? The only response I can get from the unit, is that a red light is blinking next to the QSFP28 port, either with SR4, or DAC cable.

Many thanks, if anyone has feedback.

Furhtermore I'm interested if the unit can do SMB multichannel on the 10Gig ports, or that is just a straight switch on the back, and nothing more?

Thanks,

The 100G port on the Max is 100G Base-T per specification.

Yes, but I wonder if anyone can show me a 100Gbase-T QSFP28 which in theory it reads - Copper like rj45 utp cable (as reading 1000Base-T, and 10Gbase-T means standard rj45)

AFAIK Base-T QSFP28 100G is only available in a QSFP28 to 4-way 25G breakout cable form. There is no QSFP28 with an RJ-45 connector.

Addendum:
From BM’s spec
“QSFP connection for high speed copper cables or longer optical fiber cables”

I would call BM support to get a clarification.

Same here, red blinking on the 100Gb port. We are trying to connect to a 100Gb switch with QSFP28 copper cable. Tried several configurations to no avail. Connection is working when connecting to a computer client, but not to the switch. Same switch works fine in 100Gb with other clients. Support was less than helpful with this, telling us to contact the switch manufacturer. No documentation, no help. Come on BMD, isn't this unit supposed to be made to connect to a high speed network switch? Provide settings expected to achieve this. If anybody has succeeded, please provide guidance.

maybe that will help someone:
have a 360p BMD switch here and a 48GB cloudstore max.

tried to connect with a DAC cable from Flexoptix, that i got from the german Teltec shop.
nothing working

Teltec will shop me an optical cable, lets see.

from BMD support i got a link to a support post that lists approved QSFP28 adapters link:
blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59050

i also quote support:
"I would recommend taking a look at the certified list that I have provided as these are QSFPs that we have tested and know to work with our devices.

It is also worth mentioning that the cable would need to be an optical cable, rather than a copper cable. "

so, have two FS 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28
and 1m (3ft) MTP® Jumper, MTP®-12 UPC (Female) to MTP®-12 UPC (Female), 12 Fibers, Multimode (OM4), Plenum (OFNP), 0.35dB Max, Type B, Magenta
on order, lets see if those get that connection to work
