This is a really good question.
So I just tested it.
- Windows 11 PRO Workstation
- Installing
Desktop Video 14.5 (last version available,
released February 26, 2025)
- This package installs
Media Express Ver. 3.8.1Media Express just show the same codecs (for years

)
AVI 8-bit YUV
AVI 10-bit YUV
AVI 10-bit RGB
AVI Motion JPEG
QuickTime Uncompress 8-bit YUV
QuickTime Uncompress 10-bit YUV
QuickTime Uncompress 10-bit RGB
QuickTime DVCPRO HD
DPX 10-bit RGB
NOTE: The last version of Desktop Video 14.5 was released on February 26, 2025, and the version of DaVinci Resolve that "includes" the ProRes encoding option (on Windows/PC) was
19.1.4, released on March 21, 2025.
Well, I also tested it using
Rocky Linux and installing the latest Desktop Video version available for Linux (14.4.1), and shows the same codecs (check it out the pics).
Of course, with Resolve, the CAPTURE option allows ProRes.
I just hope,

Blackmagic to the next Desktop Video version (for Windows & Linux), adds the ProRes codec for Media Express (Yes, we know, using CAPTURE in Resolve), but many users also prefer to use Media Express to digitize video.
