Cannot install BM Design Desktop Video Program

I am trying to install the BM Design Desktop Video Program but it always fails

"there is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." is the error message I get.

I have tried installing version 14.4 and 10.4.3 with no luck. I have also installed all redistrubutables and started the windows installer service manually.

When investigating the error in "event viewer" I found this error message:
"Product: Blackmagic Desktop Video -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action RegisterBMDCodecLib32Action, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic Desktop Video\, command: regsvr32 /s BMDCodecLib.dll"

I really need this to work so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jonas

Many people have reported problems with Desktop Video on versions 14.s...

If you want to try this option,

- Uninstall your current Desktop Video

- Restart the computer

-Download, extract files from the .zip (Uncompress) file and install Desktop Video version 12.9

- Restart the computer.

- Check it.

If it works, you can repeat the process (step by step),
uninstalling version 12.9 and installing version 14.5

I hope help

Hi Nelson,

12.9 does not install either. I as mentioned in my original post - I also could not install 10.4.3.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks

Hi Jonas

Do you have other Blackmagic applications installed ???

Verify that when you uninstall Desktop Video and after restarting,
C:\Program Files\BlackmagicDesign\DesktopVideo, can you see or not the folder (DesktopVideo) ???

Which version of Windows 11 (Professional or Home) ???

Do you installed all the Windows updates ???

Could you run SFC /scannow (over command shell) to check system files ???

Run a Disk Cleanup

Maybe, reinstall Visual C++

...

Hi Nelson,

none of these worked. There was no BlackMagicDesign folder in my files. Nor did the scan or disk clean up help.

Did you unzip the download before installing it from the unzipped folder?

I know it was mentioned in an earlier post but failed installs on windows typically happens when running the installer from the zip file.

Try right mouse on the installer and run as admin as a test it could be a permissions problem.

That does not help, I tried installing it on my admin user with no success. I was able to install it on my colleagues PC just not mine.

I'm having the same problem - and am really stuck on this.
In the past, I had successfully installed Desktop Video 12.7.1 (using an earlier version of Windows 11), but have been unable to upgrade.
I tried the 14.4.1 version after uninstalling 12.7.1, and now cannot install either the old or new version.

I am using latest Windows 11 Pro version 24H2
"sfc" reports no issues, and not generally having issues. Only Windows Security used with no 3rd party AV - with no reports of anything being blocked. I did attempt without - just in case - but this made no difference in the outcome.

Last time I tried, "System Restore" came to the rescue to revert back to 12.7.1 - but today "System Restore" is failing, so I cannot revert back to this version. After attempting to re-install 12.7.1 , the failure is slightly different:

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action RegisterDirectShowFilters32Action.B4AF8F71_B84D_453E_8241_2860184F17C0, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic Desktop Video\, command: regsvr32 /s DeckLink.dll

I have captured an install log for 14.4.1 (using msiexec /i "Desktop Video Installer v14.4.1.msi" /L*v install.log)

For the 14.4.1 installation attempt, the error (from the log) is as follows:
Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action RegisterBMDCodecLib32Action, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic Desktop Video\, command: regsvr32 /s BMDCodecLib.dll

If anyone at Blackmagic Design can do something useful with, happy to share - just let me know.

Thanks
