Mini Monitor 4K - Not reliable longterm?

PostMon Jun 23, 2025 2:31 am

So I came home after a weekend away and discovered that my Mini Monitor 4K card had stopped working. It's detected by Windows, Desktop Video software sees it, I can output audio through it from Windows, but whenever I try to use any editing software (Resolve, Media Composer, Premiere, After Effects), whenever the editing program tries to output video it hangs and stops responding, and no video is output through the Mini Monitor card.

I tried flashing the firmware through USB, different PCIe slots, different computers, but always the same result. Plugged in an old Studio 4K card and everything worked perfectly.

Now, this is the second time this has happened to me, in exactly the same way. 2 years ago I had another Mini Monitor 4K die exactly like this one. I had bought that card second hand, so thought maybe that was the issue, so bought this card brand new. But they both lasted just about 2 years. The cards weren't moved between computers (until they died and I wanted to test them), and the computers stayed in my office.

Has anyone else experienced this? The Mini Monitor 4K has the features I need, and works well (while it works), but I'm hesitant to purchase a third one knowing it too could kick the bucket in a couple of years.
