How many GPU's can be utilized

PostMon Nov 12, 2012 9:09 pm

I have a Windows workstation that I'm thinking of repurposing for use with Resolve. It's an i7 with 16GB of RAM and 4 Quadro NVS 450 graphics cards. (It's previous use was to drive a video wall.)

Obviously, it will only need to drive 1 monitor, so the question is, can Resolve make use of all of those extra GPU's or should I just yank the extra three cards?

Since those appear to be CUDA capable cards, although very poor ones, Resolve will probably utilize them if they are present. But if you want good Resolve performance, you should consider replacing them with a GPU card recommended in the Resolve Windows Config guide.

Thanks, Dwaine. I know these cards are not well suited to the use, but I'm hoping performance will be better than my 2011 MacBook Pro (which is essentially unusable with DNG's.)

Is there any direct way to know if all of the cards are being engaged?

Assuming you are using V9, go into Resolve Preferences / System Overview, and it will show you the GPU cards in use.

Dont forget, Resolve Lite will only use one GPU for processing (unless that's changed an i missed it?).

Does the BMDCC ship with a full version?

CaptainHook is correct. I assumed since you were discussing multiple GPU's that we were talking about full Resolve. But Lite does only support 1 GPU, and 1 GUI card if you have one.

Yes, the camera comes with a license dongle for the full version of Resolve.

Thanks, I'm playing with Lite right now, trying to establish a workflow in anticipation of purchasing the camera when the MFT version becomes available.

In the meantime, I'm trying to qualify if I'd be better-off selling these four cards and put that money towards a more modern, appropriate GPU.

I can edit the "raw" files just fine on my MBP, it's only grading where it slows to a crawl. I'd prefer to not have to leave OS X, are there any rumblings of a Thunderbolt-based accelerator?
