Frame rate is only 10FPS. Not sure why?

Do you have questions about Desktop Video, Converters, Routers and Monitoring?

Frame rate is only 10FPS. Not sure why?

PostSun Feb 10, 2013 8:31 pm

I have looked through other posts in here and everything is so advanced.

My problem is I cannot work out how to increase the FPS in the color page for this project I am practicing on.
Currently it is struggling to get over 10FPS instead of the 24FPS I need.

There's probably a simple solution, so I thought I would ask instead of wasting too much more time reading old posts.

I am sure my machine is fast enough but I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Any help would be really appreciated.

What GPU card are you using?

Resolve needs a high end NVIDIA GeForce graphics card to get realtime playback.

In Color click the Cogwheel bottom left, in Master Project Settings Tab, Then Video Monitoring,
and Check "Use optimized display mode during Playback".

If you have a Dual card system, and at least a GTX 580 Classified for the GPU
there is no need to use optimized display mode.

are you working out of RED files? (or any of debayer pattern ones...)

is 10fps a FIXED number (i.e. with green GPU status) or is a sputter/stutter kind of play?

are you working in 4K? which kind of source/deliverable timeline are you using?

Hey Walter

The files were simple H.264 files and the Frame rate was stuttering up and down. It is really weird because I went into different projects and they all had the same problem.

I don't have the fastest machine but it handles RED nicely and it rendered a 15 minute ProRes 422HQ project at 96FPS.
Any idea as to why the frame rate would be so slow across all projects?

Much appreciated

I am using 3 GPU cards.

1 X GTX285
2 X GTX680 Classified
2 X Red Rockets

Sounds like maybe it's your drive media? H264 playback is flakey in almost all software, but it really bogs down resolve, you're far better off getting into an intermediate codec.

As J_Salvo said transcode the H264 footage to ProRes or DNxHD. That should solve the issue.

I transcoded it into ProRes and that did the trick  .

You guys rock :), thanks for the help

Much appreciated
