Weird field shift

PostSun Feb 17, 2013 9:24 am

Dear friends,
While digitizing a series of Betacam SP PAL tapes through an Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt, I have noticed that a couple of tapes showed a weird field shifting problem. I'm using an Ampex CVR-65 player connected using Y, Pb and Pr connections and the files are being saved as YUV 10bit uncompressed. Please see the problem on this frame:

As you can see, one interlaced field is being shifted vertically and in time - it is clearly showed by the diferent position of the two fields on each plane.

I thought that tape was recorded as NTSC, but changing the Shuttle configuration doesn't work (no input signal), so the incoming video is truly a PAL signal. And this problem is present in about 10% of the tapes I digitized so far.

Does anybody know how can I solve this field shifting problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

see if you can swap the field 1 to field 2 dominance.

I think that NTSC has one and PAL the other.

It looks that you're playing instead of:
[fr1-fie1]-[fr1-fie2]-[fr2-fie1]-[fr2-fie2] and so on,

you're indeed capturing:

[fr1-fie2]-[fr1-fie1]-[fr2-fie2]-[fr2-fie1] and so on...
