Fail to initialize Digital Powerhouse in Resolve 9.

Hi,

After upgrading to Mac OS 10.8.1 and launching Resolve 9.0.0b.067,
I got a message when loading a project, which says
"Failed to initialize Digital Powerhouse with the configured number of decoders."
Did anyone have the same problem before ?
How should I solve this ?

I imported the XML from FCP 7 with a sequence filled with h.264 mov (from 5DM2 & M3).
The footage was successfully linked except 2 mov, but all of them can not be shown.
Although I can select and play any clip but what I only see is black.

I'll try to convert all clip into ProRes to see if it's helpful.

Thanks,

Kent

Other info:
Mac Pro 3,1
10 GB RAM
Quadro 4000 x 2

Can you post your resolve log file, that should show us where it's tripping up

What happens if you create a blank new project?

You may want to try reinstalling. I had this same issue after upgrading to 10.8.

Hi,
I am on Win7 64Bit Pc system. Clean with Avid Symphony.

I have the same error.
I had been using the 902 Lite version with no errors at all for two weeks.
Purchased Resolve and installed 903 which triggered this error.
Reinstal has not solved the issue.
Have gone back to 902 and now the problem persists.
Funny though that the first time I opened the app this never happened. Only second time.

Can this forum ( Black Magic Design ) tell me what this error pertains too? The App keeps working though.

I have an Expander 4, ( 2x Quadro 2000D plus 1x Quadro 5000.)

Cheers
Radman.

Well this might help.
By going into an empty default project does'nt produce this error.
Maybe it is something in my Project settings creating this I wonder.

Just to add, I am using a Multibridge Eclipse on a Z800.

Cheers
Radman.

Can you run CaptureLogs in the Program Files/Blackmagic.../DaVinci... folder and post the log file here, or send it to our support email at davincihelp (at) blackmagicdesign.com?

Thanks,
Rohit

Hi Rohit,

I have heard much about you.
I am very grateful for your reply.
Will send LOG first thing in the morning if you do not mind.
Late here in the UK now.

I have gone back to Resolve 902. Should I reinstal Resolve 903 and then send?

Kind regards
Radman.

They are background apps used for decoding Red .r3d files in the absence of a Red Rocket card.

Try saving your Resolve Preferences, and restarting Resolve, and see if that helps. If not, try reinstalling Resolve.

Hello,

I have the same problem on Win764bit with GTX770 in Slot 1 and Geforce GT 210 in Slot 2 (GUI), no other cards present, P9X79 Socket2011 Intel X79.

This happenes when starting up the program for the first time.
When saving preferences and restarting Resolve it seems to work.

Best Regards

The same problem occurs after upgrading from Davinci Resolve Software 10.0 to 10.0.2!
Reinstalled multiple times - not helped!

Assuming you've followed the previous advice above of how to solve this, and it did not help, can you follow Rohit's suggestion above, and run CaptureLogs and post the log file here for us to look at?

Having the exact same problem after upgrading to 10.0.2, its useless cant use r3d files on two different computers and even after wiping 10.0.2 clean and re-installing 10.0.1.

See my Dec 10 message just above yours. And also see my questions in the other thread you posted this same message in.

Also it will let me bring in one or two .r3d files, but when I try to import a folder with more than 5 .r3d files it just freezes trying to read it and crashes. Is this related to the Red Decoder Failing to initialize?

For the 'Failed to initialize RED Decoder with the configured number of decoders' error, chances are you have some other piece of software running which is already bound to one or more TCP ports 10000-10007. When Resolve runs it launches a bunch of DPDecoder processes, each one binding to a port starting at 10000. If one is already in use by some other application, it will fail.

You can look on Windows by opening a Command Prompt, and doing
Code: Select all
netstat -a -b -n

and looking for anything LISTENING on one of those ports like:
Code: Select all
 TCP    0.0.0.0:10000          0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING
[Whatever.exe]

where [Whatever.exe] is the task bound to port 10000 in this example. One likely culprit is uTorrent that binds to 10000 in particular.

I'm not in front of a Mac right now but you should be able to do something similar in a Terminal like
Code: Select all
netstat -alpn

Open a Terminal window. Type:

ping localhost<RETURN>

What do you see?

You can stop the ping with <CTRL>c

That would be related to the issue. If that doesn't work, the DPDecoder processes are not going to be able to communicate. Sadly, I can't tell you why that isn't working. But Googling mac loopback, and looking at the /etc/hosts file might be a place to start.

This is driving me crazy. I'm really disappointed. It seems there is no solution for this.
I tried everything. I saved the preferences.
In the terminal I get this message:

-ping: cannot resolve localhost: Unknown host

[Process completed]

Im on a imac 12Gb Ram running yosemite

If you are getting that message, the problem is not a Resolve problem. It's a Mac network setup problem. A drastic solution would be to rebuild the system drive from scratch.
