Davinci Supports realy 12-bit CineDNG Media?!?

PostMon Mar 04, 2013 10:45 am

Hi!
It's very confusing.

I work with 12-bit DNG files from the BMCC.
If I change the exposure I can see what all is included in the pictures.

But it seems to me that Resolve work internally with only 8-bit after this first interpretation of the data. Raising the shadows no more details come into the picture :-(

With Adobe AfterFX I can achieve very different results.

What's wrong in my settings?
It's terrible what makes Resolve with my files.

Thanks

Hi Franz, resolve uses 32 bit floating point internally so it's just your settings that need adjusting. Did you shoot with the BMCC in film or video color space?
If film, set your clip decode to film and use a BMD Lut in the node.

Now for the shadows, with the resolve shadows settings at default, adjust your decode raw exposure till you see shadow detail, you may need to adjust this with offset to get your detail. Then adjust in the resolve color ctls.

Post a link to a dng frame if you wish and I will give it a grade too.

Dear Peter,

Thak you for this information!!
My mistake was to use the settings. With ColorSpace: BMD film and LUT in the Node it works much better.
I would be interested in an example. The film will be wintry mood, cold and cinematic.
Here the DNG file: http://file.12345franz.de/blaufilm_1_2013-02-24_1452_C0001_000000.dng

Is there a way to use the "LOG MODE" Color Wheels with external hardware like Avid Artist or something similar?

Best

The log controls are only available on the BMD panels and GUI.
