Sony F55 in Resolve

PostSun Apr 14, 2013 3:43 am

I have been playing with Sony F55 RAW footage in Resolve with great success. I'm wondering if in future updates there will be native RAW support for this camera so one can change color temp and tint. Right now it seems it's lumped together with Sony F65 RAW and you can only change from three presets 3200,4300,5500 with little to no change in color. I would love to see this implemented as I think this software would be an amazing tool to create dallies for the RAW footage. Thanks so much.

All the Sony RAW cameras are supported by the same IDT. They don't require specific IDTs.

That doesn't seem right as the IDTs are supposed to be made for the specific sensor of the camera. Perhaps the two cameras are that close that it works OK... seems like there could be something more taylor made.

The F55 and F65 share the same sensor.

Not exactly. The range that the f5's sensor represents fits within the f55s performance. The Sony data is stored in an absolute envelope. It's essentially the same colorspace for the f5/55/65, with the performance within that colorspace being defined by the particular camera. In other words the Sony RAW format already accounts for the sensor difference. Ergo, one IDT to rule them all.

Is this based on inside info you have access to or on speculation?

The F55 and F65 share the same sensor.

While they both use Sgamut... they are NOT the same sensor technology

from this read and what I read else where seems to say that the F5 and F55 are NOt same color space... F55 uses Sgamut and F5 fits into rec709... this relates to physical dyes used on the CFA

You're confusing gamut and colorspace. The gamut for both the f5 and f55 fits within the broader Sony raw colorspace.
