Linux PC driver for Intensity shuttle USB3.0

I will buy 100 EA So please response on our question - when will be the driver for Linux?

I have Intensity Shuttle USB3, Linux Fedora 20 64bit and Asus P8P67 DELUXE Motherboard [1], which has "NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller" and chipset which should be capable enough for that kind of streaming data the Intensity shuttle needs.

just found new driver for Linux from 7.april 2014. apparently still no support for USB3.0.

Just installed the newest software on a Dell Latitude M6800.
Install went flawless, but it does not recognize the attached intensity USB3.0 shuttle.
Linux USB recognizes the shutlle, but Blackmagic software don't.

Count me in to for an updated driver for this product.

is it possible that the latest Update of Desktop Video 10.2 added Linux support for Intensity USB3 devices?

I tried to get Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle to work in Fedora Linux, but did not work.

BlackmagicDesktopVideoUtility says: "No Desktop Video Device Detected"
BlackmagicFirmwareUpdaterGui says "All firmware is up to date!"

Blackmagic drivers and utilities are from Balckmagic_Desktop_Video_Linux_10.6.tar.gz package.

The kernel sees when Intensity Shuttle is connected to USB3 bus.
The drivers are loaded.

But for example usbview shows the drivers are not connected to the device, or the device does not have any driver associated with it.

I made a purchase of this device, thinking it was supported, to found that only thunderbolt is supported.

I know is my fault, but community seems to be hoping for the drivers...

Not sure what answer you expect. This is a user forum. If you want an answer from BM then you need to contract BM tech support.

Also according to the BM tech specs for the Intensity Shuttle, neither of them are supported under Linux. They officially only support OSX and Windows

There is where you are wrong, the webstite states that the thunderbolt version of the shuttle is supported by linux. And this being a forum sponsored by the manufacturer, I do expect, maybe being a little naive, to be read and answered by somebody with internal knowledge at Blackmagic...

There is no mention on the product page for the Intensity Shuttle that either the USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt devices support Linux. For reference, you can find that information here.

As Tony said, there's no mention of Linux on the Tech specs page, just OSX and Windows.

You got lucky that Tony from BM answered. This is a user forum not BM tech support, so BM responses are few as they don't respond to most thing on here. If you expect a direct answer from BM on things in future then you should contact BM tech support directly otherwise you may either wait a long time for an answer or not get one at all.

Sesse, a rather well-known guy in the Norwegian video-scene created an open source Intensity Shuttle USB3.0 driver. It also works for the UltraStudio SDI USB3 (I haven't tested this yet, but he has).

This uses USBFS so it runs in user space, it is also quite inefficient using 10-15% of one cpu core. But he has used it for streaming some long events (demo scene) as on the website of video switching software Nageru: https://nageru.sesse.net/

This is not the same (at all) as getting real support from BM. But it seems it's not that tricky to create a driver, so for some of us private persons this makes sense. I wouldn't buy hundreds before testing well beforehand though (and maybe consulting with Sesse).

I too would love to see support added - just installed the software but it does not recognise my USB Shuttle. Are there any hacks or workarounds for now?

FWIW, 10–15% of a (laptop) CPU core to pull in a 720p60 stream isn't inefficient; without having measured, I'm fairly certain Blackmagic's Windows driver uses significantly more than that. Basically the entire cost is pulling in the data from (uncached) RAM into the CPU, which needs to happen sooner or later almost no matter what you do. At least assuming you ever want to actually look at the pixels

Steinar H. Gunderson has done a great job with the USB driver, but it seems it is capture only, so would not be of help with Resolve monitoring. Hopefully, he'll decided to do the output as well.

I have some half-working code for output; unfortunately, it seems there's some detail that I've missed in the protocol (probably something about USB transfer size demands or similar), so it keeps on switching mode all the time and only manages to get out a frame every three seconds or so. It's not something that's super-important to me, so don't hold your breath

You mean the glue code for the proprietary Blackmagic driver? No, I've never looked deeply at it, but it's completely irrelevant for this.

There are no news. It's supported by bmusb, but the only software currently using bmusb is Nageru.

So if Nageru fits your bill, you can use the Shuttle under Linux, no problem. If you want to use any other software, you're lost.

ah good to find this thread. I thought i couldmaybe use an intensity shuttle to run resolve on linux laptop with sound output.. but as it looks there are no drivers.. is there some alternative to the intensity shuttle for laptops? something maybe with pcmcia orusb3 connection? I m running Linux mint and Manjaro/arch linux..
