Resolve 9 - Bad Crash

PostWed Sep 12, 2012 9:55 pm

Not sure how everybody is doing with the new official release of Resolve 9, but I'm having some trouble.

Just had a pretty major crash. While normally I wouldn't make a big deal about a crash, I have never had a crash like that. And I've been using Resolve since version 7.

I added a circular power window to a shot. I then moved the window a bit to center on a face. Then I clicked the tracker button to go into the tracker window. CRASH!

I was suddenly at the Windows desktop. Tried it again.. and crashed again. So maybe it's a specific bug about CPW and tracking?

When I went back into my timeline, I noticed that alot of the nodes were blank and had a gray box with a little arrow on it. What does that mean?

For me.. Resolve 9.0 has not been very stable at all. I even think the Beta3 version was better. I wish I could go back to version 8, but there is a bug there where I can't play audio.

I hope they can fix this stuff soon. Clients are coming in for a QC shortly...

Re: Resolve 9 - Bad Crash on Tracker

I'm getting this problem too, and it seems to be project specific.

I now have a project that as soon as I hit the tracker icon, I just get desktop. Other projects are fine. It doesn't seem to matter which shot.

I have added a bunch of tracked windows to the project previously and they all worked fine; thinking about it I think this has started to happen since using the release version, instead of Beta3.

I haven't had it break any nodes, though.

What type of footage are you guys trying to track on?
There was a problem with this in the v9 betas and raw footage from the BMC. Tracking that footage would always crash. I thought this was meant to be fixed in v9 release but i guess there's still some (codec) issues..

Were these projects first created in one of the betas, or are they freshly made with v9 release?
System specs?

Geez i sound like tech support (i am definitely not). :? :D

Prores 4444 from an Alexa here.

My project was created in Beta1, although I didn't manage to actually get an edit into it until the EDL/XML import was fixed in Beta2. It then migrated to Beta3, and finally to the release version.

Machine specs:
Windows 7 64bit
Dual Xeon X5650 HT
24GB RAM
1x Quadro 2000 (GUI)
2x Geforce 680 GTX
3x G-Speed ES enclosures in RAID5 config (500 MB/s read / 380MB/s write)
DeckLink HD Extreme 3D

Re: Resolve 9 - Tracker Crash fix?

I just tried exporting and re-importing the project, and that seems to have fixed the tracker crash.

Perhaps this is a problem with migrating a project from one version to the next, and the re-import sets it up fresh?

Scratch that, a different shot in the same project just crashed as soon as I hit tracker. So no, this isn't solved.

BMD are aware of this issue and a solution is being worked on.

In the interim I suggest rolling back to the last beta version to avoid the crashes
