Studio beta 6 nested timeline crashes & instabillity

PostTue Jul 17, 2018 3:47 pm

I downloaded beta 6 over the weekend to give it a try since I had time. Overall I'm liking what I'm seeing with the tie-ins to Fusion and the updates to Fairlight.

Everything went well till I set up a project with nested timelines. What I was working with was a master timeline, that contained intro, footage, and outro timelines.

The intro and outro where very similar, just a few short clips with transitions and Gaussian blurs, a stereo wav audio track, some generators, and a text+.

the footage timeline contained a single clip that was cut into sub clips. The clips had two LUTs applied, and used various VST and Fairlight audio effects.

Everything was working fine until i nested the timelines. Once they where nested I would get instant blink crashes if i changed between timelines or tabs to fast. Whats odd, is I didn't see and abnormal load spikes form the CPU, GPU, RAM or disks.

Machine:
6850k
GTX 1070
32 GB of ram
latest version of 64 bit windows 10.

I upload my logs to google drive here:

I did some follow up tonight, and nested timelines is definitely the issue.

If I take my project and save it as a new project and then delete the master timeline everything works as expected no crashes or any signs of instability. As soon as I add a new master timeline, and start adding the children to it, I get crashes again.

Hi Dan,

Without VST and others: no issue with Nested TL: Which VST?

The FairlightFx De-Esser seems to be the culprit. Even if its the only effect on the footage timeline it crashes, but it only happens when the footage timeline is nested in the master timeline.

If I use my Waves De-esser everything is great but something is definitely funky with the FairlightFx one.

Hi Dan,

Not easy to test:
I did a TL (Timeline 1) with 5 audios tracks and a De-esser on each track (Alexa Source ACEScc)
Fairlight_TL.jpg

Tab EDIT:
- If I create a TL "NESTED_TEST" and drag "Timeline 1" directly => crash

Relaunch of DVR and opening the same project:
- If I create a TL "NESTED_TEST" and after I save project...
- after save : drag "Timeline 1" from Media Pool directly into NESTED_TEST ": here it goes.
Nested_TL_after_save.jpg

OUPS....

After quit Davinci resolve and restart :
Can not reopen the project ...

There is a problem somewhere ... :)

I'm a developer and this is definitely a head scratcher.
