Scopes not showing

PostWed Apr 24, 2019 3:38 pm

Hello,

just installed the davinci studio 16 beta and my scopes in the color tab won't show anything.
Tried to reset the workspace but didn't help. I attached a screenshot of the problem.

Thanks for any help.

Make sure you video drivers are up to date, and under Preferences-Memory and GPU, try unchecking Use GPU Scopes.

Thanks! That's work for me.
But I don't see why it does matter? I have latest nVidia drivers, 1080 with 8GB RAM This should be sufficient hardware for scopes to work...

Fixed... "under Preferences-Memory and GPU, try unchecking Use GPU Scopes."
Just need to quit and restart Resolve afterward, scopes are back!
Thanks

This happens to me too. However, the scopes function on new projects created with version 16 using the GPU.
Opening the tutorial project (which was created under version 15) is where the problem appears.

Scopes function with the tutorial project (v15) if I turn off GPU scopes. I am unable to change the waveform monitor to Y only, however. Perhaps thats normal without GPU scopes.

I had this issue with 16.1.0, went back to 16.0, and the problem went away. It didn't matter if the "Use GPU Scopes" was checked or not. I have yet to test and see if the issue is still in 16.1.2 or not (hopefully it's resolved).

I experienced the same problem on 16.1.2. I upgraded the driver for my Nvidia and it solved the issue

GPU scopes were fine for me in 16.1.2, but not in 16.2, which I just installed. Unchecking works, but something is not quite right.

Could you please post your logs as well from 16.2 build 55 (website build) after you have flipped the GPU scopes ON again.

I'm having the same issue. Scopes not working in 16.2... So frustrating.

Attempting to round trip into resolve from premiere for color. Scopes are nowhere :|

Just run into this issue too.

I have found that it seems to be certain projects that are affected.

I have updated to Build 55 (was on 54). Restarted Resolve and Turned off GPU Scopes and it all started working again. I then turned the GPU scopes back on and restarted and the scopes no longer worked.

Should GPU Scopes be on? What does this do for users?

How can I share my Logs to assist with a fix?

Just a little more feedback on this.

I'm in 16.2 and made sure to be on build 55.

GPU scopes off and all works fine. APART from the fact that I lose the ability to have Y only mode. It's greyed out and the only option is RGB.

It also seems to be affecting certain projects and not others. I haven't located a common denominator or similarity between why some work and others don't but overall it's a funny little glitch.

Would happily share my logs with someone from BMD but not sure the right process to do this or where to send once compiled. Please an someone at BMD advise.

edit: actually it's back after checking "use gpu scopes" only, not checking "use display gpu for compute"

Same.

CIE scope has gone missing and none of the "three dot" scopes menu options work at all.

Creating new projects, adjusting the GPU scope option in preferences, nothing makes any difference.

Thank the universe for Scopebox, so that I don’t have to rely on Resolve scopes.

Running 16.2.1 (Will double check) and having the same issue.

I distinctly remember seeing them either on a previous version, or on a different project.

None of the suggested fixes in this thread have helped.

I do notice the following reply in another thread:

Hi, Do not know where the logs are if any have been generated?
I have now identified the cause of the symptom but not the actual cause as a specific R15 project using .MP4 footage supplied from an iPhone.
Re-checked some R15 Sony FS5 and BMCCP4K projects and they load and respond correctly.

Upon reflection, the footage for which I remember having access to scopes was shot on an android, and was natively encoded with h.264

The footage that I'm missing scopes for was shot on iPhone, with a native encoding of h.265

As of recent versions, it looks like Black Magic is putting a good amount of focus into improving and integrating h265 support, but I do remember having to install some external codecs in order to render the iPhone footage on my timeline (Free from the Microsoft store)

I have a sneaking suspicion that Resolve doesn't fully support editing with H265 source footage at this point.

I'm going to try reencoding the source into h264 via handbrake, and then try playing with that on my timeline and seeing whether things change

Same here, GPU Scopes won't show in the Color page. They do show in the Edit page when summoned with the menu. However, when switching over to the Color page they go blank.

I tested also with manually choosing between CUDA and OpenCL in the preferences. Neither works.

Hi Jamie, I have the same issues with you, have you find a way out yet?
1. in Parade, the extents grey out.
2. in waveform, the Y and cbcr are grey out.

If by any chance you fixed the issues plz let me know. Thx!

I have a project where scopes only work in software mode. The other project (same material) has GPU scopes. Resolve 16.2.1

I dont know if thats caused the issue, but I just added a still frame (calibration chart) to the 'bad' project. Thats when I realized there are no scopes. I cannot say for certain if they were before, but I might have noticed them missing.

In edit mode, I can show scopes in the floating window, but not in color page. In single user mode, color page I can call up the floating scopes but then its not showing either.

The older project has no problem and show scopes in all windows.

The other day I opened up a project in DaVinci Resolve and was color grading when I clicked “Show Scopes” and nothing happened no scopes popped up and their is no option to have the scopes open the the bottom right window either. I’ve tried turning off the GPU Scopes and restarting my computer but nothing has helped. Please respond.

Hi all!

Just upgraded to 17b9, and while my FHD and 4K projects show the Scopes/Waveforms; they don't show up on my 6K BRAW edits. Is it because my 960 GTX with 4GB does not have enough memory (32GB system RAM)?

Many Thanks!

Same here, version 17 latest version. No waveforms showing. I have the scopes window open in the colour page and no data showing in the waveform. I feel like it's happened before and there was some keyboard shortcut that I pressed that fixed it but can't remember.. (working with BRAW files)

came looking for this answer as well and indeed the problem was the waveform brightness. I have no idea why it was on zero because I never touch this.but as with most of my issues its usually always user error so maybe I was playing around with something. spent a while trying to figure this out so thanks yall. not as bad as the day my headphones were only putting out mono and I spent 2 hours reinstalling, checking systems settings, and on and on.. but my headphone plug wasn't all the way in. we live. we learn
