project crashes davinci

PostMon May 20, 2019 3:53 pm

I created a project in Resolve for doing Fusion, and it recently crashed Resolve while I was working on a comp. Now I cannot open the project at all. It crashes Resolve without warning after about 5 seconds. I have tried bringing back backups of the project, to no avail. also tried backing up the project and then importing it. Also no luck.

I am on a macPro trashcan using 16.2 in MacOS 10.13.6 32gb RAM.

Davinci 16 crashed multiple times, then crashed my entire iMac 5K. My computer is crap now. I'm going to have to try to reinstall OSX which I did two weeks ago.

While this may not be related but could help in the future...

The RAM you specify in your system is far too low for DR to be stable, most especially when using Fusion. If you look at the recommended settings in the published setup guide for DR it recommends a minimum of 32GB for Fusion.

It could very well be that as your project got larger than DR simply chokes on itself because of the lack of "headroom" in RAM.

Try adding more RAM to your trashcan first and see if the project will load. If not it's possible the project file itself may have become corrupted. I had that issue with DR 12 and 14 a few times during BETA testing on my Mac.

But regardless you'll be doing yourself a huge favor by adding RAM - as much as you can afford. (I think the trashcan can handle up to 128GB, yes?)

The only other thing I can suggest is updating to the latest OS, 10.14.5. There may be some back-end things going on with METAL or other GPU threading issues that are resolved in the new OS.

If you're running STUDIO maybe send in a diagnostics report from DR. Otherwise is does sound like project corruption.

Can you create a NEW project in DR, or just loading the app causes a crash?

I do have Studio.

Yes I can create a new project and open other projects. I can import projects as well. Weird that it won't even open the backup projects. Tried ejecting disk with cache to let it recache footage. I finally went back to the oldest backup, and it did bring it back. Which is good. It isn't live work, but still some stuff I'd like to keep, if only to help me when I go to do new comps. Maybe I'll try using the standalone from now on.
