I have a plan

To whom it may concern... :)

Apr-19-2015, order BMD URSA from B&H - NYC.
Apr-28-2015, received unit - in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Aug-22-2019, Resolve Studio v16.1.0b.017, another "time sensitive" 60 Second Warning Panel > Dongle = pull out, push in...

Hope I don't loose my render, fingers crossed, salt over the shoulder, mud in your eye...

I may have posted a few forum messages, in the past - about this 'problem'.

This time, I have pictures - and they speak LOUDER than words... :)

***

I mentally don't want to recall, how many times - I've seen the dreaded 'Dongle Warning Panel'.

One would have thought, that over 4 years and ~4 months, a software routine could have been added into the Resolve code.

Use some of that "AI" and ask me a 'skill-testing question'...

It could 'ask' me to please insert the 'Dongle'. Do some kind of test. Perhaps write a "confirmation" code to:

C:/Documents/Resolve_Dongle.dat

C:/Program Files/Blackmagic Design/Resolve.config

etc...

***

It could contain >

Q: Does 'Ken Cooper' have an official Resolve Dongle?
A: Yes

Q: Should we display the dreaded 'Dongle Warning Panel'?
A: No - never again

***

However, I've come to the conclusion, that this software code is 'impossible' to create.

So I got an idea. I'm not an electronics wizard, but I see 4 pins in the Resolve Dongle USB connector.

I'm going to use my Dremel with a small cut-off wheel, and cut the Dongle in half...!

***

Plan to use 18 gauge wire and solder USB Pin #1 - to Pin #37 on the Intel Core i7 CPU.

Pin #2 gets soldered to Resistor R18 - inside the NVIDIA Quadro K5200 case.

Pin #3 gets soldered to my towers Power On LED (with a relay).

Pin #4 gets soldered to chassis ground.

***

Do you think my plan will work...?

***

Just because the Dongle's LED glows 'green' (a small blessing) when it is plugged in, it doesn't mean the Dongle is actually working.

Does my 'Dongle' have a warranty...? Is it expired...?

***

war·ran·ty
/ˈwôrən(t)ē/

noun: warranty; plural noun: warranties

a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary within a specified period of time.

***

I'm willing to use my Fedex account, to have the 'Dongle' shipped to the BlackMagicDesign world head-quarters, and possibly receive a much needed 'firmware' update.

***

I'm also running out of crazy ideas... :)

Perhaps there already is an 'off-the-shelf' solution. Either the shelf is too high, or I'm too short - and don't see it...

***

I will continue using and testing, the latest beta versions. You all, can rest assured - that this is the 'last' time, I will ever complain about the 'Dongle'.

It doesn't get any better than this... :)

Credit goes out to ALL the programmers - who are trying their best, to tweak the million(s) lines of code - just to make DaVinci Resolve even better...

It sounds like a problem with your USB 2 port that the dongle is plugged into, or the driver for that port.

Sorry for the long last post...

How does one check a USB port? Does anyone make a USB tester...?
