Unicode Hindi Rendering

PostWed Oct 02, 2019 9:33 am

Resolve does not supports Hindi Unicode in Text+ (Upto V16). The rendering is wrong. Although, the characters are displayed correctly in the input panel, the rendering is wrong. I think that has something to do with the Glyph Substitution Rules.

Here is the rendering :

incorrect rendering

The correct rendering should be :
45144-dhwani-right.jpg
correct rendering

Here is the Resolve's screen capture for Text+:

PS: Simple Title Text is working as expected.

I would be super grateful if Arabic could be showed the way you got Hindi showing.

Arabic is rendered as Squares so to speak. Just bought another license after the dongle stopped working, and I'm redownloading Resolve to see if this new version has any improvements or not, and while I was registering the Serial, I asked them in the feedback section to show us, paying customers, some genuine listening ear, that would relieve us telling us at least they're trying to work on it, or that is on the table.

As for your issue, have you tried to change the fonts?

Aboubakr,

Could you check that the font file you're using is installed for all users? The behavior for font installation has changed in the last few versions of Windows 10 - and it's likely your font is on a user-specific folder.

If that does not work, could you send us a link to the font you use and a small exported project file (drp) with an example?

Thanks

Finally, someone has paid attention, and just to re-iterate, I was speaking about Arabic, and I had a couple of topics posted here about it, the latest is from here:

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=91891

I'm on Ubuntu Linux 18.04, and I use the latest Beta.

I can see something new indeed!

I tried to use the base Arial, and the Arabic letters have shown for the first time ever, however, they're shown written from the left to the right, and are scattered and not shown in their recursive form, as Arabic letters aren't written separated, and they don't look the same when connected.

We had this issue on the first days of AfterEffects back then, as well as PhotoShop, but it was fixed very fast, and we got the ME version that supports Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Urdu, and other RTL languages.

So, we're getting there, we just need some more efforts, so plz pass the message, they're almost doing it.

Here's a screenshot:
https://ibb.co/6sdWvnS

Also, you can see it rendered correctly inside the Styled Text Box, but not on the video preview

I am on Windows 10, fonts are installed for all users.

I've tried will all standard font including Arial Unicode, Mangal and Google fonts.

Here is a link to Google devnagri (hindi) fonts : https://fonts.google.com/?subset=devanagari

Here is a hint for the developers, it it related to glyph substitution table/GSUB processing/lookup.

A link to Microsoft typography article : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typogr ... devanagari

A link to project drp is attached. The first Simple Title Text works, but the Text+ does not.

Can you paste a sample text here as Text and not as an Image.

I'm working on a Plugin that I'm pretty sure it solves your problem, but I just need to test myself.

There is also an Open Source one from Rodlie on GitHub, which is the extraction of Natron's text engine.

It may be.

"When using non-Latin characters, including Hebrew or Arabic script, in Text+ and Text3D nodes, ligature groups (connected characters) are handled with more accuracy."

Nope! Running the latest Build on Linux and nothing changed :/

From where did you extract that quote?

I am facing this issue as well on 17. It renders Devnagri correctly in Text but not Text+. The inspector shows the correct version in both, but only Text renders correctly. Very frustrating!

My OFX plugin has fixed it for me, and I wanted to release a free version, but never got the time because of the work and the tight deadlines.

I hope to get motivated again, and be able to provide you guys with a working solution. My issue is that I contacted BMD Devs about this, and explained how it should be fixed, and how easy it is, but the responder says, although it might be easy, decision making would take a lot of time, and not sure how long, since we reported this over a year ago :/
