DaVinci Training Request

PostMon Apr 07, 2025 6:39 am

This is not a software enhancement request but a request to augment the training media for DVR, now in DVR release 20. My early encounter with Resolve and learning it was via tutorials from Daria F’s Goats Eye 5 minutes or less videos many years ago. Each short video was focused on a single topic or feature. Since Daria is now with BMD, I would like to request that a similar format for delivering training materials, or videos that complement the user guides be created. It really helps especially when you encounter a feature or functionality in DVR that you need to get a handle immediately, you can just pick up the video that pertain to that feature and focus on learning it. If I am not conveying the idea clearly, ask Daria. - she knows what I’m referring too. An additional thought, it will be brilliant also to put links to these short videos from the user guides in their respective sections.

Here’s an example of one of her short videos…
URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, BM Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. iMac Pro 27” 5K Retina, 64gb, 1Tb SSD, 12Tb M.2 NVMe TB4 DAS, 36Tb HDD DAS, Vega 56 8gb GPU/ BM Vega 56 8gb eGPU, MacOS Sequoia, Resolve 19.1.1 Studio. BM Panel & Speed Editor. Dual Display setup.

I think that's not a bad idea at all.

I've talked to a few YouTube training people I know and suggested, "you know what would be a great feature? One five-minute video for every ResolveFX plug-in we have available in DaVinci Resolve Studio." No takers so far. I think a lot of people are missing out on using the OFX plug-ins, because they don't see how valuable and important they are.

Totally agree. I have a short attention span and I don’t have the patience to watch long training videos where 80% of the materials I already know but to follow the projects you got to do them. So when I was learning Resolve, I started looking at the < 5 minute Goats Eye Views video on what I wanted to know how to implement the feature(s) and I would just go back and forth with the other videos as I needed to. Of course, the User Manual was always open on a screen for reference. Your idea of the 5 minute OFX videos is great too. Of course, there are so many YouTube videos out there demonstrating the features and OFX in DVR Studio. But only a small percentage of them are good or has cohesion.

Like any request, I don’t have a lot of expectations that it gets any eyes or ears for consideration. Just hope because I know it’s the fastest way to learn DVR.
