First Import as Proxy, Later Assign Source

PostMon Dec 18, 2023 12:59 pm

I do a lot of conforming the traditional method, but would love to try the camera to cloud workflow without ever sending the original source files to the cloud, and not doing the classic reconform from bins later on.

Ideally, shooting with the iPhone into a cloud project with proxies only and then manually loading the original files the next day - never sending source clips to Blackmagic cloud storage.

Is it possible to link the source files imported locally to the proxies managed in the cloud storage in a cloud project? To me, this is the most logical use, but the only way I could see working this way now is with the reconform workflow and not the fancy new proxy/original source toggle workflow.

Am I missing something, or is this a feature request?

Thanks for all you do!

+1 I would also love the ability to edit first with Proxies, then be able to batch reconnect to the original media without re-importing the original media first and going through the Reconform from Bins workflow. Super handy when working with remote editors who will only receive the proxies

Chadwick, I believe this is a feature request as Resolve doesn't have the ability to batch reconnect proxies to the original source media. However, you can currently reconnect one clip at a time by right clicking a clip and selecting Link Full Resolution Media.... This doesn't work for multiple clips though and it has one huge issue: timecode.

If the starting timecode has been altered in Resolve (for instance, using Update Timecode from Audio Track), then there will be no way to reconnect that piece of media to the original as Resolve will attempt to match the altered timecode to the original timecode.

Thanks Philip, glad to know I wasn't missing something.

Link Full Res Media in batches would be great.

In my suggested workflow TC would come from tentacles not using audio timecode (iPhone app and FX3 over USB port).

Although I do think there is room for resolve to do linking/source conformiing with converted audio timecode, like avid's aux timecode but to start it would be great to just tell resolve when you bring a file in -

"Import as Full Res Media" or "Import as Proxy" - and then give batch options to hook in the full res or proxy later. Right now it only lets you do that with proxy which is backwards of how post really works.

I fully support this feature request as I generate proxies in my Sony α7Siii with tentacle sync embedded timecode.

I need to import them into DaVinci Resolve first before importing later the original media files.

A simplified workflow would’ve great !
