Clean Feed on more than One Display

PostThu May 22, 2025 10:55 pm

In our studio, we have the workstation with dual monitors. One with Clean feed, the other with UI. We also have DCI 4K projection room. We would like to be able to send Clean Feed to both DCI 4K displays--the flat screen in the edit suite, and the projector in the screening room.

This was something we were able to do with Adobe Premiere Pro. Please add this feature. Thank you.

Hi

Please look at remote monitoring for this purpose.

Anything that goes over a network is speed-limited and also requires extra hardware to implement.
Simpler solution would be to implement features that have existed on every NLE since the beginning of computer editing. We use multiple full screen displays on Adobe Premiere and were quite dismayed to find that feature missing in a professional tool like Resolve.

Use a decklink

Again, that's buying more hardware. We have the hardware. I have FOUR outputs on my RTX card. And I don't have any open slots to fit any more cards in my workstation.

Yes, but...it WILL get the job done for you now, without waiting on BMD. ;)

And honestly, it's the better solution from a technical standpoint. Clean Feed is OK for content monitoring, but QC should get a Decklink.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I would just get a splitter box.

I'd originally looked at the Decklink but at the time there was no DCI 4K support, so I didn't buy it. Now, with the big GPU, I have no slot available for anymore hardware.

I've got a bunch of items in my Amazon shopping cart: Displayport splitter, Dsiplayport to HDMI adapter, and a 5V USB C power supply for the splitter.

Only issue with the splitter is that my graphics card can support different refresh rates on it's various outputs. For instance, 4K 60P for the DCI 4K 10-bit display and 4K DCI 24P 10-bit for the Sony projector. The HDMI on the projector can't support 10-bit 60P, so I have it running at the lower frame rate. If I were to use splitter, I would either have to run both displays at 24P or run the projector at 8-bit color.

You have to get a DeckLink 4k then which supports DCI 4k.

Good to know if I build a new workstation someday with more than six slots. My current workstation has zero open slots.

Use PCI extender cables for inaccessible slots. Or use Thunderbolt for output.

I looked at a few of those extender cables, but I don't think there's enough clearance under the GPU to plug one in.
This is a PC, so no Thunderbolt.

That's a major commitment. For me, just upgrading to a RTX3090Ti was a major project. Now the systems got loads of horsepower, but I'd like to make better use of the four video ports on the GPU.

I understand that is a commitment, but resolve is designed to with with a decklink, period.

Clean feed was introduced waaaaay later to satisfy other uses.

You can try this:

1) gui monitor 1 by itself
2) clean feed monitor 2
3) monitor 3, ask window to mirror this minor with monitor 2, in a theoretical sense it should give you 2 clean feed streams

That's an interesting idea.. I know we can mirror 2 monitors. But I am not sure if it is possible to mirror just displays 2 and 3 and have display 1 as primary.

Use a PCIe extender cable (16 lane) for your graphics card. Many PC cases have a ‘showcase’ spot to better display the graphics card. A nice side effect is that you’ll have access to previously hidden PCIe slots.

This case was assembled in 2015, before the 'showcase' era of server towers. Electrically, a PCI extender may cause problems with the transmission of high speed signals.

I have a 3090ti as well and the extender cable works very well....

but try to mirror the GPU monitor output, it might just work...

I was able to mirror 1 and 3 (display order changes ever time I boot the system though, so I have to configure every startup) and get simultaneous output on projector and monitor 2. It CAN be made to work.

The mirrored 1/3 monitors worked yesterday, but when I booted up today, the 4K flat panel display didn't wake and in the nVidia control panel did not show that display, as if it were disconnected. Furthermore, the projector, a native 4K DCI device, was stuck on 1080P.
I rebooted again, this time the 4K flat panel came up, but at 800x600 resolution and in the nVidia panel, it was shown as "digital display" instead of "LG 31MU97" like usual. Also, both monitors would blank out every 6 seconds or so and when they came back on, my tablet cursor was jumping all over the desktop--I could not click on anything with predictable results.
I had to disconnect the projector to get things to return to normal. This method may not be workable after all.

with multiple displays, it is "recommended" to have all at the same resolution... I think you are trying to connect monitor and projector and the might have different resolution at play, especially if you are trying to mirror them.

a Decklink is really recommended.
