FAIRLIGHT
BLACKMAGIC CLOUD
- [ACQUIRE] Cavalry - Procedural 2D motion graphics
- [PARTNER WITH] Serif & Canva - SVG (or EPS) workflow solution (similar to Adobe Dynamic Link)
- [ACQUIRE or PARTNER WITH] Strada - improve Blackmagic cloud workflows, competes with Frame.io + Adobe and AVID Media Central
Opportunities for workflow optimizations with 3rd-party solutions
- Affinity Photo & Designer - SVG (and EPS) optimization
- Blender - USD + EXR optimization, color management congruency, metadata exchange, etc.
- LucidLink - create in-app integration and streamline workflow with Blackmagic Cloud
- Create an auto-proxy-on-import feature for LucidLink volumes
- Status indicators in the Media Pool for streamed LucidLink media
- Integrate with Resolve bin resyncing functionality
- NDI support for remote edit sessions
Issues with Audio for Multicam and Metadata
- Improve Multicam workflows so that ISO audio tracks can be easily selected (and patched for editing) instead of creating a compound/mixdown track that requires Flatten Multicam Clip for the audio, converting to an adaptive track, and converting to a linked group (and unlinking). This process needs to be streamlined for a much easier user experience (similar to AVID).
- Executing automatic timecode syncing via bins strips audio metadata and prevents Find in Media Pool and Match Frame commands from linking back to the original audio files. (This may also be problematic when transferring projects to Pro Tools, and sound editors need access to source media ISO stacks.)
- Improve the Fairlight to Pro Tools workflow so that Pro Tools users do not have to manually rebuild the ISO stacks themselves when given AAFs. Sound roll metadata is transferred.
EDIT PAGE
- Develop a Script Sync and Phrase Find competitor. IntelliScript is good, but not enough for scripted film/TV
- Consider adding more floating panel features and workspace customizability
- Improve multicam editing workflows, specifically in regards to audio ISO tracks
- Need a Clip mode for the Mixer and meters for the Source monitor
FUSION
- Create a motion graphics page or Fusion workspace with a hybrid layer-based panel
- Acquire (or partner with) Cavalry. Then integrate it into Resolve while still having a stand-alone app (like Fusion Studio)
- Please act fast. Maxon just acquired Autograph. 2D MoGraph is Resolve’s Achilles’ heel.
- Optimize importing SVGs, Affinity files, .eps, (and Adobe Illustrator files.)
- Partner with Affinity/Serif/Canva for better interoperability when importing and updating files imported from Affinity Photo or Designer similar to Adobe Dynamic Link
- Need continued development of vector toolset
- Overhaul the keyframe functionality
- Add the ability to custom reorder the display of nodes with animation (to reduce scrolling)
- Maybe add an optional visual cue/indicator/icon in the node graph for nodes that have animated properties
- Add the ability to custom reorder the display of nodes with animation (to reduce scrolling)
- Improve keyframe functionality for 2D animation
- Improve GPU acceleration for better playback
- Support metadata interoperability with asset management solutions like Shotgrid and FT Track
- Scene publishing
- Render tracking
- Asset linking and versioning
- OpenAssetIO integration
- Improve workflows between Fusion and Blender
- Develop a bridge plug-in or external process (similar to VFX Connect or Adobe’s Dynamic Link)
- Support import/export of camera data, object transformation, etc.
- Support live updates or versioned cached syncing
- Improve USD, EXR, FBX, and OpenVDB support
- Maintain hierarchy, instances, materials, animation, and metadata between apps
- Standardized render pass workflow
[[list]/*:m] - A shared EXR render pass template: standardized naming, channel structures
- Auto-recognition in Fusion when importing Blender multi-channel EXRs
- Support Cryptomatte ID matte data from Blender’s EXRs
- Develop a bridge plug-in or external process (similar to VFX Connect or Adobe’s Dynamic Link)
- Color management harmony
- ACES integration and LUT management between both apps
- Allow Fusion to read Blender’s OCIO config directly (or vice-versa)
- Camera tracking and scene data exchange
- Export camera tracking data, 3D markers, and lens info from Blender’s tracker to Fusion's 3D workspace
- Ability to bring Fusion’s camera solver data into Blender for pre-visualization or match move correction
- Python API Interoperability
- Unified or bridgeable scripting - a script that automates sending a Blender scene to Fusion and vice versa
- Extend scripting docs and samples to support cross-app automation
- The same considerations should be made for workflows with Unreal Engine 5
FAIRLIGHT
- Expand keyboard command functionality and general editing UX
- Needs more workspace customizability
- Ability to undock Mixer, Index Panels, and Loudness meters (without having to activate a dual-screen configuration)
- Need better AAF support for Pro Tools in regards to metadata conformity (reel names, scene/take)
- Since Pro Tools uses TRAS / AAX plugins, Fairlight should:
- Allow users to flatten automation to keyframes on export
- Offer an option to print FX to new stems and preserve dry clips
- Embed plugin names and parameters in AAF comments for manual matching
- Need an AAF Round-Trip Export mode
- Locks timecode and track layout
- Preserves clip names and markers
- Optionally flattens audio effects or prints FX stems
- Optionally flattens audio track layers?
- Since Pro Tools uses TRAS / AAX plugins, Fairlight should:
BLACKMAGIC CLOUD
- Need better role separation for large teams (especially for assistants)
- Need streamlined timeline versioning (and approval features)
- Need some kind of central tracking system that tracks editorial changes and metadata over time
- Need bin-based locking
