Customizable Modifier Keys for Timeline Scrolling & Zooming

PostFri Jun 20, 2025 7:17 am

I would request a feature to customize modifier keys for scrolling and zooming in the timeline. Right now, Resolve uses Ctrl + middle mouse to scroll horizontally. I want to be able to use Shift + scroll for horizontal movement on the timeline, and maybe Ctrl or Alt + scroll for zooming in and out on the timeline.

This is how it's done in most audio and video software. It’s quicker and more intuitive for people coming from those tools and use them most often.

I tried using AutoHotkey to flip Shift and Ctrl globally, but that causes major problems. Resolve shortcuts get broken, modifier keys get stuck, and it’s just unreliable overall.

It will really help if we could just set what each modifier key does with the scroll wheel inside Resolve.

There is already a Feature Request for mouse shortcuts. Please add your vote below.

+1,000,000

Adding a Mouse Editor (similar to the existing Keyboard Editor) is one of my top handful of feature requests I bring up every time I get the opportunity.

I have custom mouse wheel modifiers I've used in my DAWs for probably 20 years now (both in Samplitude and in Reaper) and I hate not being able to use them in Resolve.

Scroll:
Mousewheel = Scroll Horizontally
Shift+Mousewheel = Scroll Vertically

Zoom: (add Ctrl modifier to the above)
Ctrl+Mousewheel = Zoom Horizontally
Ctrl+Shift+Mousewheel = Zoom Vertically

Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Mousewheel = Zoom Audio Waveform
(special case I rarely use, but I have it if I need to increase the size of the audio waveform)

And not that Resolve has normal track selection, but if it did:
Ctrl+Alt+Mousewheel = Move up/down one track

I love that and want it in Resolve.

Even after 3 1/2 years of using Resolve I still hate the basic mouse functions. This also includes using Alt+drag to copy clips. Every other Windows application I can think of always uses Ctr+drag to copy. Resolve is such an annoying application to use and it provides very little options change this. I want my editor to give me options to customize it how I want and then get out of my way, but Resolve is constantly up in my face forcing me to do things in absurd ways.

There are so many other options Resolve could implement for mouse modifiers and editing, but I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here... even after 20 versions Resolve still hasn't even figured out the basics yet.

There is also a feature request specifically for Custom Mouse Scroll Modifiers here, so give this a bump too. I posted an image from my previous DAW Samplitude showing a basic implementation of this that Resolve could implement.

Customize mouse scroll modifiers:

My current DAW Reaper has way more advanced mouse customization than that, but Resolve is certainly not ready for that high level of customization yet. Maybe Resolve can handle the really simple one considering that Samplitude was able to do it like 20 years ago... we'll see. :?
