Layout Preset Bug + Triple screen layout preset issue

PostFri Jun 20, 2025 2:25 am

With DaVinci Resolve Version 20.0 Build 49 I am experiencing a display layout bug of sorts. I have three displays plugged in at all times with my Mac Mini M2 Pro.

Saving a layout preset under Workspace > Layout Presets used to work well with two displays. Now with three displays in Resolve 20, the layout preset never remembers which monitor is primary, which is secondary, and it never saves the Workspace > Video Clean Feed setting. Instead it always has Video Clean Feed turned off when I use a saved layout preset.

The actual layout bug in Resolve 20 is that after loading a layout preset, Workspace > Secondary Display has the incorrect monitor selected in comparison to what is actually occurring:

  • So Monitor A is saved in the preset as my Primary Display.
  • Monitor B is saved as my Secondary Display.
  • Yet when I load the preset upon opening Resolve it has Monitor C acting as a Secondary Display but in the menu it has selected Workspace > Secondary Display > Monitor B.
  • So then to get around the bug I choose Monitor C in Workspace > Secondary Display, nothing happens, and then I go back to the menu and choose Monitor B, in which case it does switch the Secondary Display. Then I go back into the menu and choose Monitor C as a Video Clean Feed.

Every. Single. Time. I. Open. Resolve. :D

Would be great if the bug is fixed and also, while we're at it, if Workspace > Layout Preset could include the setting for Workspace > Video Clean Feed.

Thanks for considering!

You can overcome this problem by not using the Video Clean feed and instead getting a cheap Blackmagic Decklink or UltraStudio adapter in order to give you an uninterrupted Timeline feed 100% of the time. Then, nothing you do with screen layout will ever change program layout.

Good or bad, that's basically how Resolve was designed since day one. Clean Feed was a fairly-recent addition because of user demand, but there are some "gotchas" with it, as you've discovered.

Bugs should be reported in the regular form section. This section is for new ideas - Feature Requests. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Jim, thanks for the clarification.

In practice, the line between a bug and a feature request can be blurry—especially for end users. I trust the Blackmagic Design team to review submissions and determine where they best fit.
