Feature Request: Clip level Version system

PostMon Jun 30, 2025 2:40 pm

Timeline clip versioning controls. I think it would be awesome to get an expansion or alternative to Take Selector with the ability to add duplicates of current clips in a timeline for different versions of fusion compositions or edit page effects. This way we can audition different effect combos in real time or with a simple switch.

The current best way to do this is to create a compound clip, then turn it into a multi-cam clip. However, I work on 13-20 minute documentarys for YouTube and I dont want that many multi-cam clips in my bins, I cant imagine someone on longer timelines having to mannage that when you could just have clip versions on the edit page like we have for the colour page.

Even if you could just do it for fusion compositions, to be able to make whole different versions without all the extra nodes in the node graph.
I guess for now I will have to go with a B-Roll v1, v2, v3 track system. Thats too bad but what can you do I guess.

If I missed anything that I can do please let me know.

Isaac, are you aware that the Fusion page already has its own versioning systems?

at node level

The node level versioning is cool, but it’s not that helpful when I want to audition different entire sets off effects or keep historic node trees accessible. I guess I could group the nodes and label them as v1,2,3 but I don’t know if that would eat up ram or processing. Maybe I need to take another look at that though.

It would be cool if at least we could shuffle through fusion clips version from edit timeline. And if we could have predefined names for these Fusion compositions, based on tokens (so automatic _v### versions etc).

What part of the composition level versioning functionality (second screenshot) isn't working for you?

Agree... when multiple alternate composition options are defined on clip instances, it would be nice if there was an Edit page 'Load Composition...' context menu option (with a submenu showing available choices), so those alternate compositions could be loaded without switching to the Fusion page to do it.
