Compound node of a single node

PostFri Dec 11, 2020 5:27 pm

I work with a fixed node structure and Occasionally I need to make a compound node to add complexity, but I want to encapsulate it so I can paste on different shots or hide the complexity when I don't want to see it.

So it is reasonable to turn the node immediately in a compound node, then start to work on it, only to discover that you cannot create a compound node out of a single node and start working.

So, I usually have to make a fake compound node, save it in the gallery, reveal the node tree, drop the compound node...

It world be great if we can make a compound node out a single node and don't charge the node number in the process (node number stay the same)

it would also be good to be able to share compound nodes like shared nodes.

thx

And please Blackmagic Team, make the compound nodes to actually behave and count as ONE single node; as they are not when copying grades: if you have "keep 1-10 nodes" function On, and one of those is a compound node, each node inside will be counted individually, which breaks the whole purpose of having a compound node for myself. This is the only thing stopping me using them massively.

OMG yes!

Every time I assume this is possible, I end up hearing a sad trombone playing in my head.

+1 I agree, but here's a slightly easier workaround. Add a new serial after the node, select both, create compound node.

I have to say, this sometimes can screw the node numbering, so not really ideal if you're relying on rippling etc.

I don't know if this is a new feature (and it still doesn't care about node numbering) but if you lasso select one node, you can actually create a compound out of one single node already

1) yes it works by lasso one node instead of simply select it. that's odd under many circumstances...
2) it will change the node number and that is a NO-NO for me...
