Frame.io - various bugs and improvements

PostSat May 08, 2021 1:15 am

My biggest gripe is constantly having to log in and out of frame.io to get the folder structure to appear in the export page. Often it will be blank despite frame.io appearing to be logged in. For me this happens every few days.

File navigation through frame.io folder structure is very slow - this should be prefetched

Link to frame.io doesn’t work with XML generated timelines if you have the timeline bin turned on ie the option doesn’t appear (sometimes it can be worked around by making a smart bin).

The auto linking with comments appearing after you render using the frame.io export preset sometimes doesn’t work. Linking should be explicit for all timelines, you should be able to see the link, disable it, force an update or refresh etc. you should also be easily able to move through various versions in a frame.io version stack.

Frame.io comment window on colour page needs to be persistent and needs to update when you move to a new comment. An option to show comments on the broadcast monitor would be nice.

We need the ability to hide comments that are ticked and / or ticked comments should have a different marker colour.

This would require collaboration with frame.up but some kind of edit / cut point metadata allowing reviewers to move from shot to shot would be incredible.

Plenty of bugs indeed... I keep getting logged out from Frame.io in Davinci regularly, and same here with markers suddenly don't sync from timelines exported through the Frame.io integrations, and so on.

Explicit linking would be a great idea! Including force update or refresh as you mention. Hope this gets some attention since Frame.io support only redirects us to BM for any issues.

Quick exporting to Frame and seeing a blank panel where the folder structure should be is very annoying, and it happens all the time.

I've been reporting the disconnection/rate-limiting issues since 2019, and it seems to be getting worse. I have to re-login to FIO several times a day!

I’m chatting with people at frame.io since a few weeks about the need to manually link and unlink timelines. I’ve also reported the rippling issue when you modify an edit and all the Frame.io markers duplicate and ripple. I’ve been told an important meeting between Frame.io and Blackmagic is about to happen to check and hopefully address several bugs. Fingers crossed.
