Turn off/Ignore timeline i/o for copy pasting clips

PostFri Jun 11, 2021 11:13 am

Hi,
I am used to the ctrl c /x /v command follow wherever the playhead is, the timeline i/o points cause erratic and unwanted behavior. I want to be able to turn it off and resolve just doing what i say at the playhead point.

Win10

Time wasted due to resolve bugs: 38 hours (and counting.. just used for 6 months)
Time wasted due to Premiere bugs: 108 hrs (final)

The priority for Paste is:

1. In point
2. Playhead

I don't believe this needs any change.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

This is annoying for people coming from tools such as premiere.. It can be a user decision, no need to impose on others this counterintuitive way...

Learn the new way, and it won't be a problem. It is intuitive when you embrace the paradigm that DaVinci uses.

I don't that's not normal, John. The priority is In/Playhead.

The biggest mistake I made after switching from Premiere Pro was thinking that my previous experience meant I could just jump into a new NLE without difficulty.

Nope.

Thankfully, BMD has made some really great training resources available for us.

I recommend the Beginner's Guide and Advanced Editing (below the video section) as a solid groundwork for working with Resolve. ;)

That's also the way it was in FCP7 and Pro Tools (the two other programs I've used the most after Resolve). Very standard as far as I know. What is tricky is keeping an eye on the track assignments.

All of this is covered extensively in Blackmagic's free textbook "Advanced Editing in DaVinci Resolve," which is available here:

Every editing system has a few idiosyncrasies, but actually Resolve is pretty sensible when you take a step back, look at how it all works, and let it sink in. More than one editor to whom I've shown Resolve has said, "hey, this is kind of like what Final Cut 8 could have been," which I think is a good description.

My conclusion as well after doing the training.
