Copy text attributes and fade duration

PostWed May 19, 2021 1:15 pm

This is a feature every video editor has. I can't believe it is not possible in DaVinci. I cannot copy text attributes, not even the fade duration to other clips.
Please add this feature

If you're referring to copying the attributes of one title to another title, you can simply highlight the first title, CTRL+C, then paste it in at the playhead with CTRL+V. Then you have a second identical title and you only need to change the text.

Another way of doing this is to set the first title, then drag it to a power bin, then drag it from the power bin to the desired place in the timeline and all attributes will be kept.

I have been using both methods since DR 16 and they save a lot of time.
Kind regards,

+1 to copy text attributes. It's ok if you know you have to set the text AFTER setting the attributes, but if you have something like 20+ Text clips, it would really be much easier to be able to copy and paste the attributes across all of them at once.

This would be very nice, but at least you can change a group of text clips together by selecting all of them and then setting the attributes.

I can't believe this feature still hasn't been added! What???
Today I had to open an old project and noticed that Resolve has messed with the way my main title font is rendered (Gibson light). It's much bigger now, with the same Main Text Size. So I had to correct the size for al (70+) Title clips. Now, what? Copy and paste text attributes across clips? Nope.
Not even with alt+v.

So, let's spend some time manually changing Text size for all Titles. Yeahh, welcome to the year 2022!

Hi, I've read through everyone's recommendations and suggestions and am still struggling in my specific situation.

I have title text that is designed properly in one clip that I need to apply to approximately 90 different videos. Text titles are already in place, I just need to copy and paste attributes from the designed one to the rest.

If I'm reading all of your suggestions correctly, this is not possible? Meaning I'm forced to type in the attributes to text in all 90 videos? (I know that I can highlight and them in the same video and simultaneously update them, it just seems ridiculous that I need to type it in so many times, rather than just being able to paste).

Help is appreciated!

I think the trouble comes from the fact that the text layers all use fusion, and if you do anything in the fusion page, it could be hard to determine what attributes/nodes to paste and what to ignore. That being said I wouldn't think having an option to paste parts of the "template" node specifically while on the edit timeline would be terribly difficult to implement. Also making the fade handles paste-able, or at least being able to control multiple at once like how you can trim multiple clips at once, would be very handy.

This would be super trivial when you set up 30 texts and the client wants to change them. It would be nice if it also got the font face as well on the parts of the text. I often mix font weight based on selection in the Rich Text field :D

Yea pretty wild that this isn't a standard feature - it's pretty essential.

+1 for this and thanks to Ralph for the "select all clips" to adjust them all together. That work around will have to do for now

Same as OP, I have 50+ text credits with a 24-frame fade on each end. Need to extend them all to 30 frames. No easy way that I have found, which makes it an N*2 and very fiddly task.

I though this program is supposed to be great, fast and save time, 3 years and still no basic copy and paste function?

I have a client video, text throughout the entire video, and now they want to change the font.

If I select all the text layers and change the font attribute, it removes all the Text in the "rich text" input for some unknown reason. Therefore I need to either change all of the settings manually or just simply redo all the text for the entire video.

What gives? this is ridiculous? and so basic? Can an admin explain if we are missing something here or if this is an actual issue that will be resolved, or if this hasn't ever been flagged or noticed? (although I fail to believe it hasn't been noticed as this thread alone dates back years)

Text attributes can be copied from the Fusion page. I just discovered this and save me several hours of tedious work.

Change the text attributes the way you want on one clip.
In the Fusion page select the newly updated clip along with all of the clips you want to change.
Right click on the newly updated and click Apply Composition
This will update all of the clips you had selected.

This does not affect any Transform settings. If you have any Transform settings applied, this can simply be updated using the CTRL+C and ALT+V method.

I run Resolve 18.6 on a Mac M1PRO - How do I select multiple (text) clips in Fusion? Where am I supposed to find "Apply Composition"? -can't find it anywhere and no search hit for it in the Resolve manual!

Ok, so I found out how I can select more clips on the Fusion page.

But it does not seem to work as expected. When I have done "Apply Composition" to the clips as described - it does not update on the Edit page/timeline until I "touch", let's say "Size" in the inspector - AND when it updates it also changes the text itself, not only the styling of the text. ....So it's really useless for what I, or we, need.

If this doesn't get implemented this year I'm going back to adobe :| I don't understand how this one thing STILL doesn't exist... I bought Davinci Studio because it was better than Adobe, now, Adobe has Mass edit which makes editing projects faster, this is ridiculous and I'm so angry that I have over 200 text elements and my client wants to change them and there is no logical way to do that !!!! COME ON

+1 the feature should definitely be added.

In your case, as others have said, you are able to select as many text elements as you want and edit their attributes simultaneously. It’s not the feature we’re all requesting, but it’s a nice feature on its own and should save you a lot of time.

This also change the text value so would have to update the text again, perhaps its okay as temporary solution if copy text before doing this, but its not very flexible solution.

Hello, I also would benefit from a seemingly "basic" and elementary feature. Especially since paste attributes is available on video clips. Why would this feature not be available for text blocks? This seems very strange. I created 60 text clips all timed out first. Next I was going to format and animate text. Can't believe this feature isn't available.

@blackmagic please look into this for the next update.

I would love to have the following:

- Ctrl + C any clip or transition / Ctr + Shift + V to paste attributes
- Right click copy any clip or transition + right click paste attributes or transition

This is without the attributes menu popping up, or at least show attributes as such:

- Video
- - Blur [ ]
- - Noise Reduction [ X ]

You just tick the ones you want copied over.

or even allow us to select an effect from the effect control menu from one clip and paste it manually into another clip
