UI Font scale for 4k monitors

PostMon Jan 11, 2021 5:14 am

Add ability to scale up the entire UI (fonts, menus, buttons) on 4k monitors.

A physically larger monitor is the better solution. And you don't have to wait for BMD to use that solution. ;)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Unfortunately, that would mean a monster sized monitor on your desktop. Which causes other problems.

I have tried 32" and 40" UHD monitors. The 40" was better sized for Resolve's UI elements, but I found myself craning my neck around too much (became painful), and eventually scrapped this solution. I am back to a 32" UHD now, and as others have pointed out, the Resolve UI is either much too large (150% windows scaling), much too small (125% windows scaling) or blurry/pixelated (High DIP compatibility mode = system).

My temporary solution is to use the lesser scaling / too small Resolve UI, but to run in a smaller window and sit closer to the screen. I "bust out" my media panel into a floating window. Works OK.

Functionally, Resolve is missing the "middle" scaling option that all other applications I use now have.

This issue does need to be rectified; it will not go away - Although some users might.

I've got it running on multiple machines and displays
32" 4K
27" 4K

The fonts and buttons and generally the UI are too small on all of my displays - buying a bigger screen isn't the better solution, it's clearly not working properly.

How big a screen should I buy just to make resolve viewable on a 4K panel? 50"? 60" ? 85" ??!!

Hell let's just project it onto a wall so we can work!

When 8K starts rolling around, I can't wait to put a 65" monitor on my desk so Resolve can work properly.

That WON'T work as bigger modern monitors have higher resolutions so things get SMALLER.

when gradeing the Ui mon is nothing but a (needed) nusance / light polution creation device

good luck with a 43" 4K Ui screen in a gradeing theatre with 0.04nit enviroment and a 48nit peak luminanace on the thing you care about... the hero screen...

i use a 24" Dreamcolor @ 1920x1200, single mon and that's more than enough for my use of the ui, put it to the left hand side well clear of my vision to the screen - my control surface is front and center, scopes well clear to the right

but for editing / finishing i use a 31" / 2650x1600 and that works well

why even bother with a 4k screen? more does not always equal better
