Toggle source/record

PostWed Oct 13, 2021 9:28 pm

Can somebody explain me the benefit of the source and record switching sides when I toggle between the source and record monitor's timeline? I like the way AVID does it better. You toggle to source, the playhead turns green and the left monitor starts to interact. Very straight forward.

I'm not sure that I am with you, If I display both source and record windows I can switch between them with the Q key. So which ever window is highlighted is the one that plays. You can of course have just one viewer window and the Q key will switch between source and record in that single window.

I mean stepping into the timeline of the source using "swap timeline and source viewer". And yes, the function is called "swap" so it's actually doing what it's supposed to. BUT in many cases you would want to see the content of a source in timeline mode, because it makes selecting stuff easier (especially when the source is a sequence/timeline).

Just like this:

Yes, Avid's implementation of Toggle source/record - together with its more flexible patching system - is far more powerful than Resolve's. It's one of few things that Avid does better.

Some of us have been asking Blackmagic to have a look at this for a long time. Hopefully one day they will...

Yes, the patching… I would love to see this happening!

Another thing that Avid used to to better is listening to people in the forums :) It's a shame that Avid is so lame nowadays..

And that’s because of its timeline handling which is far superior for bigger productions. I also miss bidirectional trimming very much..
