Select all clips under playhead

PostSat Aug 08, 2020 12:54 am

As the title stated & must function for MULTI-TRACK, this is a helpful feature to easily select groups of clips when using a large monitor, editing with video thumbnails activated & a multitrack timeline like example a TL with 8Videos & 4Audios.
Selecting them with selection tool is a pain & way too much time consuming because in order for me to highlight those clips, my mouse needs to travel from 1st track down to last track (12 tracks to select) just to move them.
I am happily using this feature in Vegas & Premiere, Resolve must have it.

Resolve has the feature, turned off by default, under the Timeline menu.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Jim, if you're suggesting the menu under the TRIM (not Timeline Menu) which is select nearest clip/gap, the function in that is to only select a pair of linked A/V track & dependent on the lowest auto track enabled in both. That is not what I really describe above, like my example with 8 Videos & 3 Audios involved, it cannot select all of that tracks. What I needed is like the functions present in the 2 NLE I've mentioned.

I was referring to the Selection Follows Playhead feature, under the Timeline menu.

But that does only select one clip at a time.

My vote would be no on changing the current behavior of that feature.

It is not changing a current one BUT adding a new function instead because it is NOT a present function in Resolve.
D is the shortcut with this in Premiere Pro to select all clips under playhead, this is aside from the selection follows playhead which is also available in Premiere.
I wonder if you are also that Jim Simon in the Adobe PPro forum who is also a active veteran there, nice to see you here.

Sorry to revive an old thread.. but am I right to understand that I can't have a KB shortcut to select all clips (multiple tracks of audio and video) under playhead?

Premiere called it "Select clip at playhead" and it would select all clips on targeted tracks, under the playhead. I am resolve 16.2.7

Thanks in advance

A workaround is to link all the tracks.

I agree..I'm genuinely surprised there is not a shortcut for this. Does anyone have a keyboard shortcut for when we want to remove a part of all tracks?

Purely for removing/rippling you could set an in and out point on the timeline (or press "x") and press backspace/delete, it should work for all clips on different tracks simultaneously. Got to say it often does not work correctly for me on the first try, have to undo and do it again, some kind of bug..

I wouldn’t see the harm in making “selection follows playhead” honor the auto-track selector buttons.

So if you want it to target one track, you can. If you want if to target more than one, you could.

This feature request is related to "Want undo/redo to save/restore the selection" viewtopic.php?f=33&t=161334

A common workflow is to do a command, decide it's not quite right, and then undo it and redo it slightly tweaked. Right now undo loses the potentially laboriously created selection. Restoring it would let the user incrementally adjust the selection rather than having to recreate it after the undo.

It is added as a shortcut, I guess that's nice, it would be nice to just have it as an option with selection follows playhead too though

Hey Maxwell... Option = Alt, you're looking at Shift-Control-V, you need to look at Shift-Alt-V.

I am used to select all clips at playhead and copy or cut them to buffer and paste to a different location or select all empty tracks at once and delete empty space. I have to do it with mouse and it is very slow.

So keyboard shortcut for selecting all clips under playhead is essential for my process. Tried to move to resolve from premiere but lack of this feature forced me to return back.

Hi @Shrinvas,

The request was to have "Select all clips at Playhead" be a feature of "Playhead follows selection", and not a separate command that requires an additional keystroke. Every edit of mine I am working with more than two channels of audio on their own track, so having this feature saves me a TON of time in Premiere, without having to use the mouse to click or hit a three-button-sequence in order to just have the selection be everything at the current playhead.

Hope this helps clarify. Thanks!

Optionally this extra feature he described could be great for some edits but the default behavior should not be changed.

Nope, that may be your request, Chase, but its not this thread's request. Jane, the thread opener, asked for a shortcut similar to Premiere's Select Clip at Playhead shortcut (default keystroke assignment: D) which selects all clips under the playhead on targeted tracks. That equivalent function (Select All Clips Under Playhead) was added in Resolve 18.5. You can map it to whatever key you want, it doesn't have to be the Resolve default assignment (Alt-Shift-V).
