Trim Mode Modifier Key

PostThu Dec 17, 2020 12:09 pm

When I ripple trim I always have to switch to trim mode "T".
Then I switch back to normal mode with "A"

Ir would be nice to ave a modifier key for that, like "opt" or holding "T" temporarily.

I could not find a solution, so I guess this feature does not exist, but would be useful.

Thank you

You can do it now. Click on the edge of the clip or on the clip and press T.
After editing, you will automatically return to Select Mode.

You have to press "T" while holding the mouse button.

Given that hitting T or A takes no more time or effort than hitting a modifier, I would vote no on this. It adds nothing we can't already do, and doesn't make the work any easier.

Thanks I tried it and it works you need to click your mouse and tap the T key. But it seem when you click in the center of the clip and tap T the icon change to slip mode but when dragging it does not slip. It does not work for slide too. The icon change but it does not slide. Is it a bug or I am doing something wrong.

I also think that when in trim mode the icon should be another color instead of white so that you know you are trimming and not resizing

Yes it does. that is exactly what the current does; It takes MORE time because you have to check what state you are currently in. Rather than knowing a key ALLWAYS will act a certain way. Regardless of the timing action. There are times the timing isn't right and you have to pause or start over. And if you don't check before dragging and you are looking at your action, you have to press it again. Thus taking two steps instead of one.

plus, if you want to trim AND snap you have to hit the keys while you are dragging in a perfectly timed manner. Stopping your action do do so. Rather than just pressing down the modifier key(s).

This is a better way for people who edit fast with keys rather than mouse in particular and power editing. Every NLE and Creative software I have used except Resolve uses modifiers keys to perform actions.

The edit page was born as a conform page for color. It is time it gets real NLE features.

Trim edit as a modifier key

PostMon Dec 06, 2021 1:43 am

So we're constantly switching between selection mode and trim edit mode. And pretty much always, after using trim edit, you want to go back to selection mode.

So I suggest setting up trim edit as a modifier, where you hold down a hotkey, it enables the mode, you use it, and then when you release the key it goes back to the previous tool, most likely selection mode.

I've actually managed to set this up with some macro software and it's frickin awesome. So convenient.

Premiere Pro behaved this way. I prefer the current Resolve method myself.

+1, this program is killing me with its lack of customization settings for editing.
