Watch Folders

PostMon Jul 20, 2020 5:45 am

Would be AMAZING to have a bin setup that automatically imports clips into the bin when they are copied to the folder on the hard drive. So I dont have to copy a file to a folder and then import it to the bin. Sounds easy enough but with tons of clips it becomes a very repetitive process. If something like this already exists, would love to know how to do it.

Watch Folders

I know this is not an answer but you can achieve that with a script.
But I have to say from my very little experience with writing a watch folder script in python, that it is not as simple as it sounds. Especially on windows platform.

+1 for a feature request

Yes, definitely a +1 to this.

I am currently using a plugin called Watchtower to achieve this in Premiere, and desperately want to move to Resolve, but having to manually import footage when assets are added or changed would take so much more time, it's not worth the change yet without this feature.

What do you mean by a mention? Was there some sort of feature implemented into Resolve or did you mean a mention on the forums?

+1.

I am constantly importing new assets to my projects...especially when I'm testing out stock footage and music. This little bit of automation would reduce my overal editing time by 0.25%. It's small but definitely concrete.

This might be possible now, from the da Vinci Resolve 18 Beta release notes:
• Scripting API support to detect stale media bins and refresh them.
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=158557
The remaining question: Where can I find this Scripting API, and what is this new function called?

With respect to the Scripting API, the info is found in the Help menu > Documentation > Developer >> Scripting >> README.txt document.

The commands being referenced are:

GetIsFolderStale() returns True if folder is stale in collaboration mode, False otherwise
and RefreshFolders() updates the folders in collaboration mode

What I've been doing as going to the media screen, right clicking the root folder for my source files, then clicking "Add folder and sub-folders into media pool (create bins)".

Then, when I add new files to the folders, I go back to the media tab, make sure "Master" is selected in the bottom left, and select the same "Add folder and sub-folders into media pool (create bins)"

This rescans the folders and adds the source files. It's not a watched folder plugin, but it saves many clicks.

Yes!!! +100
This would save so much time and pointless clicking.

I add item to my project folder. Then I have to click through and add it to the project. If I have a lot of files I need to scroll through them, and find just the new one that I need to bring over. Such a PIA.
