Trim mode

PostSun May 22, 2022 4:55 am

There's only one thing that Premiere Pro does better than Resolve - only one - and that's trim mode. The Trim tool in Premiere is amazing. The trim tools in Resolve - mediocre at best. Please - check out Premiere and see if you can do better. Or at least as good.

I actually find Trimming in Resolve superior to Premiere.

I hope this doesn't change.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I have several posts about what I find slows me down with Resolve’s trim tool. Here they are:

Adaptive mouse pointer doesn't always display proper tool
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=160972&p=852181#p852181

Why do I have to be in Trim mode to ripple?
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=157598

Odd ripple modes: add a way to disable them?
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=159984

Strange timeline won't allow ripple, moves items out of sync
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=72894

Ripple won't honor selected edits for linked clip
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=157597
and
Linked Clip won't ripple even if clip selection requires it

No offense to anyone but Resolve trim tool can't come close to Premiere's. When you enter trim mode in Premiere the entire Record window becomes "trim"...both sides of the edit appear full window (or even full screen if you desire). You can grab both sides or either side to move clips. You're actually physically grabbing the clips - you don't have to touch the timeline...and that is amazing. If you don't get it, well, then you don;'t get it. After making a trim it automatically plays around the cut until you hit the space bar.
This is the one and ONLY feature that is superior to Premiere.
Please Resolve engineers, give us this feature.

There have been a number of requests for a trim window in the past. I'd say it's all the more crucial in Resolve, because performing trims on minimized tracks (low height) or where icon badges get in the way, can be pretty frustrating.

That, and a modifiable trim tool (alt, ctrl), to toggle between select and Trim mode is another common one.

Lol. If 7 weeks is your idea of 'waiting' for a major feature rewrite/update, you have much disappointment in store. ;)

I have to agree that it's nice to see how much tape is beyond the edit when you go to trim mode in Premiere.
I don't mind Resolve's Trim mode. I am slowly learning it. I too am coming from Premiere and i am super comfertable trimming there so I know with time Ill get as good or better with Resolve. but yes it's nice to see how much head or tail is left on the clip when going into trim mode premiere shows that very well.
