Please start projects on the first page.

PostSun Jun 19, 2022 11:55 pm

Resolve insists on starting new projects at the Edit page, which is perplexing because you don't have any media to work with. I would expect it to start on the Media page. It is first in the default layout, after all.

People who don't like the Media page can hide it; this will make the Cut or Edit page the first page.

Therefore, having Resolve start at the first page will cater to everyone's preferences, using a preference setting that already exists in the app.

There should be an option for it at least. I would suggest a 'New projects start on: ' and an 'Existing projects open on: ' option of which the later should have an option to open on the tab it was closed on.

Sounds reasonable, although I think existing projects already start on the last one you were using. That seems sufficient to me.

I'm happy with the current behavior, it's one click away.

Then you won't be opting to remove the page. Thanks for letting us know.

Media should be the default page for new projects.

+1...
Enough with cut page priority ..
Or give user the option to choose first page of choice. Others want edit other may want color...

I definitively don't want that change, especially if it's by default.
It's totally fine as it is now. I start on the edit page.

I'm pretty sure the vaste majority of people start their editing right away after opening resolve.
Drop their footage and the media pool and go to town.

If someone really need to manage their footage, take the 0.0004 secs to click on "media".

Hard to edit without media, and the Media page is best suited for importing/organizing such.

Well, I don't know how people edited videos with Resolve all these years without any problems :D
If they add a new user settings, and don't make

The media management is one click away if needed. I don't have any stats, but I'm sure the vast majority of the users opens DR, drag their files (or folders already organized) in the media pool and start editing.

My personal experience with the Media page is not good anyway.
The face recognition is not great and doesn't work well (it misses so many faces), the cuts detection only work with perfect footage (nothing shaking) with clear cuts (no fade in out)... it's faster to find them manually, and the browser panel for the files si extremely slow. I have a folder with 1000 mp4 files, it takes a while to load the list, and their is no way to use native explorer from the OS to just past a path to go directly ton a folder.

I don't know what you're on about with face recognition and all that. I wouldn't even attempt that, and it didn't factor into my request at all. The Media page provides a convenient thumbnail browser, which is a major advantage over OSes' file browsers. And no, putting Finder or Explorer in icon mode is not a substitute; especially Finder, which is monumentally incompetent in that mode (rows of thumbnails run outside the window horizontally and can't be made to wrap, so you're scrolling in two dimensions over an arbitrarily-sized grid).

Anyway, if you don't like the Media page you've probably removed it, and would also be suited by having Resolve start new projects on the first page.

I don't know why we need to belabor this any further.

My workaround for this is to build empty "template" projects, which are already set to open in whatever page I want them to. I seem to recall that Resolve does save the state of whatever page you were in during your last session when it was last saved. If you build an empty template that has a few timelines, all the Config and User Prefs set up, bins pre-built, and so on, it'll open however you want it to. Save it with the new session name, and you can immediately go to work.

I think it does remember the last page you were on, per project. So... good tip!

+1 from me!

Could be a setting in preferences, so everyone is happy. I personally never created a project that I didn't want to start in the media page. But to each their own!
