custom keys, please?

PostMon May 30, 2022 6:11 pm

I REALLY REALLY like the speed editor, but I'm almost always using a keyboard in addition to it, which feels silly because I'm NEVER using more than half of keys on the speed editor.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow it to be customized in your Keyboard Customization panel. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thank you!!! :)

Anyone who agrees please say "Yes, please!!" et cetera below!!

Especially since most of the fuctionality seems to be focused on the cut page, it would be nice to customize for better use in other pages.

This has been asked about a dozen times before on this forum. It's best practice to search your idea first and upvote it, rather than to make a new post.

+1. This is extremely overdue, and would add a lot more value to the Speed Editor.

In the country where I live, the price of the Speed Editor has raised, the price for the Editor Keyboard has fallen, significantly. This might indicate that the Speed Editor sales well, but the Keyboard not so. Blackmagic's core business is selling hardware, isn't it? Could it be that the reason for not inventing programmable custom keys on the Speed Editor for such a long time is that it would cannibalize the Keyboard even more? The idea behind could be, everybody who needs additional keys can buy a keyboard - just speculating.

By the way: The device has a key to Undo, does it have a key to Redo?

Everyone has there own way of working, their own shortcuts. An tv editor does thing differently from a social media editor from a feature editorial from a commercial editor. But Sadly giving us this costuming on the resolve panels (or others like tangent) is not allowed somehow. Please let us customize our keys.

Way back in the 2000s, we had some blank Macro keys on the old daVinci 2K panel. I was told we would eventually have custom key capability there someday... but it never happened.

I'd love to at least see blank programmable keys provided on future versions of the Speed Editor and the various Resolve Color panels. Basically, we'd have the equivalent of a Streamdeck, only in the Resolve panel itself.

a while ago i saw a link here on this forum pointing to a big self-made resolve panel by someone, i forgot who it was. It was for mac only. It looked pretty cool, with a lot of functions in various pages. He sold it for not too much money. I'm kinda interested, does somebody know what i'm talking about?

Not asking for Speed Editor to be customisable to work with anything other than Resolve but like 99% of Resolve users I am never going to have 9 cameras. (probably never more than the 4 the ATME mini can handle and even that rarely)

So an app as part of the paid Resolve Studio to modify the 9 camera keys if not the rest.

IF it is done as part of Resolve Studio then it will be used by paying Resolve users not people trying who download the free version to modify the Speed Editor on other apps.

If you purchase the Speed Editor (or any BMD hardware I believe), you get Resolve Studio free. So anyone who owns the Speed Editor will also own the Studio version.

Plus, I don't see why BMD would care what program you use the Speed Editor with, they get paid either way when you purchase the Speed Editor and they would likely sell even more of them to people who aren't using Resolve. I'd love to be able to use the Speed Editor in both Reaper and Resolve... of course, I love to be able to use the Speed Editor in the Edit page first. lol

The Speed Editor only works with Resolve and that is the way BMD want it be. I assume they want, like Apple, people use a total BMD environment. Which is reasonable from their standpoint. They are not makeing a generic editor keyboard.

However like you I want it t be usable inthe Edit page which is where I do most of my work.

I'm not suggesting they should make the Speed Editor's functions so generic as to appeal to any editor nor should they provide support for other applications... however, I saw a thread a while back explaining that they deliberately locked it down preventing anyone from using it in another editor even if they wanted to try to make it work. This was likely more effort on BMD's part only to make it less flexible for users. This I do not understand at all. I see no reason to deliberately cripple users if they want to make it work in other applications with the knowledge that they won't be able to get any official support from BMD to make that happen.

I assume they want, like Apple, people use a total BMD environment. Which is reasonable from their standpoint.

And that's one reason why I don't like Apple and don't own any Apple products. Unfortunately, I will have to get a Mac at some point to be able to release some apps I'm developing on iOS because of Apple's locked down system, you can only compile apps for iOS on a Mac. Not thrilled about that either! But I will likely get something used that's just good enough to do that ONE task and do nothing else with it.

However like you I want it t be usable inthe Edit page which is where I do most of my work.

Same, I don't have a need for the Cut page myself and don't use it. It's very strange to make a Speed Editor that doesn't work very well in the Edit page.

This customization should include:
- double stroke,
- combinations to use joogwheel as dataentry when the key is hold
- On the future, hardware Option/shift keys should be more than welcome.

As a note: I never use Speed Editor, maybe it is me, but I feel much more comfortable with the keyboard and custom keys, also speed editor disturbs on my desktop together with Mini Panel, which ergonomically is taller and doesn't fit well together, as if they come from different brands, in fact, there was too much hardware pieces on my desk which I prefer to keep tidy and clean, so the first device I dropped was the speed editor, which is unusable for my purposes. Also I never got the sense to the Cut page. The classic edit page is more than enough.
